A cheap taillight bar proved the easiest solution for me. No matter what you do the cover will always be forced open, so might as well get something plug and play.

I think my bar was around $17, and I put it on the bottom of the tailgate so it gives a bit of glow above the plate.

This bar developed ab issue so occasionally I get a trailer bulb out warning, and I do wonder if putting just one resistor in (for running lights) would make it think that the turn bulbs were bad.

But in doing so you've disabled two safety features.

And enabled another that is far more useful on a daily basis and would prevent a MUCH more serious accident.

Cross traffic is only useful in parking lots, which I back in 90% of the time anyways, and only engages when a vehicle is VERY close (plus, it does actually still go off most of the time).

The other keeps me from backing into something.

Both of which have FAR less serious implications than the highway lane changes, and more commonly odd ball merge lanes, where the side view comes in most handy. This is especially true as I only have to do a shoulder check plus left mirro, then center mirror screen glance, rather than completely turning away from the direction of travel to do a full blind spot check. This keeps me looking forward, which with the lack of merge etiquette around here is better.

In the end, having 5 systems to cover one of the most common causes of accidents, and one of the most likely to be severe accidents, is worth the loss of the backup proximity sensors.

Edit: It seems I only lose backup proximity, not cross traffic. I have a minimum size trailer set in Towing which iirc makes a difference

I've never seen that 'side mirror view' when towing a trailer, is that a setting or a Forscin thing?

Yes, it has to be enabled with FORScan.

Safer? Looking to the center screen to look at camera views, while driving 70mph in traffic, is safer?

Don't agree.
Not much different from glancing at a rear view mirror and trying to decide how fast that approaching vehicle is coming though...the worst thing is people who don't look in their rearview at all ever...

Thanks Bruce for the link. I see that Reese adapter is unavailable on Amazon. My adapter didn't work but I may get the resistors and try it.

Didn't mean to start a controversy here. I liked it when pulling a trailer into tight parking lots, pulling into tight parking stalls, pulling into tight driveways, and while sitting next bike lanes at stop signs and stop lights. It helps to avoid running over curbs, running off the edge of driveway into the ditch, running over kids, and other obstructions sitting next to a driveway entrance, not hitting another vehicle parked catywompass in their parking stall, and when these parking lots with narrow driving lanes that make it impossible to make a complete 90 degree turn into a stall without having to jack around to get it parked straight in a narrow stall. I'm an old fashioned not trust the mirrors and mirror lights kind of guy so I always twisted my head around to look before lane changes, etc. My neck is getting a little stiffer with old age. Also Blue cruise only works on interstate highways and the bulk of my driving is in town or rural roads and highways with all kinds of hazards. Also mirrors don't always tell you when some kid on a bike or motorcycle may have pulled up next to my rear quarter panel. Also I just don't like to change lanes in heavy city traffic until sure I am clear of the vehicle or kid on a bike that is in the lane already. I could probably go on with things I've learned in defensive driving schools and just being a safe driver. A glance at the screen is no different than the other scans on rear view and side mirrors and monitoring speed and warning gauges while driving. Always have to be aware of your surroundings. I've driven enough that those crazy speeders driving a hundred miles an hour swerving around through traffic using 5 lanes just sneak up on me.

Thanks guys.
Often they are on 'crotch-rockets' or in stolen BMWs...:)
