Hey guys!

Shawn here from EV Rods in Long Beach, CA. Super excited to be joining the community as a new forum sponsor!

My daily driver is an F-150 Lightning, and like most of you, I got tired of the stock "floaty" ride and heavy rear rake so I started developing a coil over kit using Ridetech shocks and Hyperco springs. We’re targeting taking orders this fall after we finish our testing. If you’d like to be an early adopter, join our waitlist to be notified when we start taking orders: https://electricvehiclerods.com/scan

If you want to get rid of the rake now, we’re curating an inventory of performance suspension parts that fit the F-150 Lightning. We secured physical inventory sitting in our warehouse ready to ship today. We are currently offering free shipping on orders over $299.
  • Eibach PRO-KIT Lowering Springs (Level the rear & fix the stance)
  • Eibach PRO-TRUCK-LIFT Stage 1 (Eliminate rake & maintain ride quality)

Shop the F-150 Lightning Collection Here:
https://electricvehiclerods.com/collections/ford-f-150-lightning

LMK if there are specific suspension components or brands you’d like to see listed for the Lightning. I want to stock what this community actually needs.

Cheers!

The links in your post are all malformed; jfyi. You might want to fix them. (the second one was fixed; the first one to /scan is still broken)

How do mods like this generally impact the warranty? I've been using a policy of "wait until the bumper to bumper expires before doing this kind of mod", but it seems like that might be extreme.

Thanks for the feedback... I was able to update and test the links in an incognito tab.

Love the dedication and bringing a new option to market. I had 1500 lbs of gravel in the bed yesterday and I *FINALLY* saw the suspension stance that I liked.

how is this kit going to be compared to the Eibach lowering kit on your site? Why should I consider your kit vs a known commodity?

Can you please test towing with this mod? I will not consider this mod if it negatively effects how much load I can put on the hitch or tow weight limit set by OEM, e.g. 10K Lbs.

:ROFLMAO:I know what you mean.

They're both quality products. I think it all boils down to personal preference and flexibility. The Eibach kit will certainly be an upgrade over stock. The added adjustability of the EV Rods solution will allow for users to fine tune the firmness to their personal liking or, in your case of adding 1500# of gravel, dial it up with the turn of a knob. RideTech has put a lot of R&D into their dampers to make muscle cars turn well on a track. At EV Rods, we're leaning into that tech to deliver a balanced, tunable solution specifically valved for the Lightning's weight dynamics.

Great question. While our primary focus right now is fixing the unladen, daily-driven ride quality, towing stability is absolutely something we are factoring into the design. For 10k lbs towing that would put 1k lbs on the hitch. Our goal is to ensure the truck handles those loads without feeling completely unsettled. The advantage of going with an adjustable coilover setup for towing comes down to:
  1. Spring Rate & Stance: We're spec'ing Hyperco springs designed to support the Lightning's heavy curb weight. The adjustable collars mean you can set your base ride height where you want it and still retain proper suspension travel for when you do drop 1,000 lbs on the hitch.
  2. Adjustable Dampening: This is the real benefit. When you hook up a heavy trailer, you can adjust the shocks to make them more firm. That helps eliminate the "porpoising" and float you usually get with the stock suspension under heavy load.
Once valving is finalized, I'd be happy to do ride-alongs with local Lightning owners so they can post their honest, direct feedback here on the forums.

Is there no insight on this?

I don't find the OEM suspension floaty. Quite the opposite, I find it too stiff and pot holes (more like craters) are jarring through the cab. I'd prefer something closer to air shocks without the high price.

A dealer can't automatically deny warranty for a suspension mod. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act the burden of proof is on them to prove the aftermarket part directly caused the failure before they can deny a claim.

Generally speaking, if your screen glitches or the main battery acts up, that's still fully covered. But if a kit puts bad angles on a factory CV joint and wears it out, they can fairly deny that specific joint. For reference the angles of my axles with a 1.5/3.0" drop are at: 8.5 deg (front) and 7.1 deg (rear).

I hope this helps

Out of curiosity, do you find both front and rear to be jarring? How many miles does the truck have?

In my truck (which is @ 18k miles... but I got it used so who knows how abusive the first 14k were), I agree with this. Especially roads with "nonstop" bumps, it just feels like they amplify and make the ride miserable.

It's not a truck ride, it's not a Cadillac/boat ride (and I learned to drive in an '84 Grand Prix -- I know about boat driving :D)... it's something somehow in the middle and worse.

Once I have enough info to know if I'm picking up a Fathom or not (leaning to no right now), I plan on doing suspension work, and maybe even getting more sidewall (going to 18" rims) to help the ride. In my case, it's 90% a pavement princess (and the 10% is more "trip to Lowes" or "move a couch/appliance" than "load this thing the hell down") so I am not worried about the overall capacity as much.

It's been harsh on major bumps since it was new, so its not related to the mileage. It's less harsh in the back seats than the front. I agree with JayF, its not the worst, its not the best.

Shawn,

I have a 2023 F-150 Lightning Platinum ER. I feel like it drives like a boat and I feel that it is too tall. I don’t know anything about suspensions and stage 1 this or that. I would like to lower my truck and also make it handle less like a boat. I don’t town anything, but I do put some weight in the bed occasionally. I certainly don’t want the low rider look either. I currently have the factory 22” wheels, but when my tires start wearing out, I’d like to move down to 20”. I’m not sure which of the options on your website I should consider. Looks like most of them are sold out and I’m not in a rush, so if you wouldn’t mind explaining some of the options in layman’s terms I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I'm intrigued by this. It feels to me that the stock suspension setup is sprung stiff, mainly in the rear, but with very soft damping.
I think this is why it gets described as floaty and soft, but also jarring. My guess is this is the best way for Ford to balance payload and towing capacity via springs, and then try to soften via damping.
I don't tow a large trailer, and would prefer softer springs with heavier damping, so I'm curious to see how this new kit develops. Maybe the unicorn would be soft coil springs, heavier damper tunes, with air helper springs when needed for higher loads or more ground clearance.

With the Eibach kits, there is very little objective info about what is actually changed, which has been my hesitation with that setup.
