I think in Sport mode the regen is a little more aggressive, throttle response is more sensitive, and the steering is stiffer (less power assist).
Personally I would like to have an option in Normal mode to have the same regen setting as Sport mode. Makes 1-pedal driving easier.
Agreed. It's only in rare cases that range is a concern for me. And of those cases it's even more rare that the amount of range I lost with these tires would have made a meaningful difference to my trip.
You and I must have been separated at birth... I too have a SmartCap as well as the MIckey Thompson Baja Boss A/Ts!! And like you I also noticed quite a hit to my efficiency with those tires (SmartCap did not seem to have much effect though). Curious, what size did you run on the tires? I went a...
This is important. I read somewhere that the F150 drag coefficient is something like 0.44 and the Rivian is 0.28. I have both and I can see at highway speeds I do observe a significant difference in efficiency between the two vehicles, even though they are similar in power and weight.
Efficiency can vary WIDELY frome one mile to the next in any vehicle, but particularly in an EV where downhill miles often add power to your battery. The GoM uses an average based on some data, but even with an accurate average you will see individual miles that end up very far on either side of...
I had this question a while back. The conclusion I reached was that preconditioning the battery was useful when you want to eke out every ounce of efficiency to maximize range for a long trip, by using shore power to warm the battery instead of using battery energy to do it while driving. It's...
I have one as well, installed in September. Loving it so far. Rain doesn't see to be a problem, but I had to seal the seams. Power tailgate doesn't really work anymore because (at least in my case) the gaskets give a little too much resistance. But I don't mind the manual operation. If you go...
If the 50kW are significantly cheaper and easier to install, then I would be happy seeing these at 50-mile intervals along major roads. At least then you don't have to ever worry about being stranded.
Thanks - I've done that, but often it changes the route when you switch to bike mode. However, I did find that PlugShare does a great job of this if you use their trip planner!
As you can see, elevation is going to be a big factor in this particular trip. I'm going to be carrying some gear on...
I love this story. And I fully agree that uneducated folks try to downplay the Lightning's capabilities by applying absurd standards. Do they really think their ICE engines experience no loss of MPG when towing??
Thanks for that answer Rick! I am going to boil down the takeaway to be: "don't bother with departure times unless you need it to improve range for a long drive."
Is it "good for the battery" to warm it up with departure time preconditioning?
Or is it JUST a way to maximize efficiency (and therefore range) by using shore power to do what the truck would otherwise use battery energy to do when you start your drive?
This is my quandry. If the latter is...
Thanks for the response!
Related question: if I do a remote start while plugged in will it precondition the battery or just warm the cabin? (I know that it does not precondition the battery at all when not plugged in.)
