  1. WTB: Extra Ford Charge Station Pro?

    Like others, mine is NIB
  2. Let's talk Tesla adapters (needs and available now) I need the basics....

Here’s the problem: if you have the extended range Lightning and you friend has a Tesla high power wall adapter (which is Tesla’s equivalent of the Ford high power wall box) that is hardwired to 100 amp breaker, that Tesla box is going to send 80 amps to your truck (which happily will ask for...
  3. Charging connectors and extension cords for the road?

For real flexibility you need a charge cord that can have its maximum amperage set, since the Lightning (unlike my Teslas) doesn’t allow you to set the maximum draw in the car. Set to 80% of the breaker.
  4. Dear @FordMotorCompany

I was stunned that Ford didn’t include a function for setting charge limit globally. It’s been a Tesla feature since 2013, IIRC. Having location based charge limits was added about a year later.
  5. Charging with 14-50 outlet in California - Issues

Sounds like a great garage! You getting a separate 300 amp service for it?
  6. Charging with 14-50 outlet in California - Issues

my 200 amp service was maxed out. In addition to the 14-50, I was adding a pair of 6-15s for power tools. So—we added a thermolec 60 amp EVMS to allow adding 60 amps more load and stay within code. A lot cheaper than upgrading to a 300 amp service and full panel redo on an already complex...
  7. Charging with 14-50 outlet in California - Issues

Well, the experts here are telling me that it’s not from the GFCI. I have used two FMC’s with the same behavior. Neither one has a problem with my other 14-50 outlet (which is wired from the older code, a normal 50 amp breaker). It’s true, I haven’t tried my Tesla mobile or a plug-in Autel yet...
  8. Charging with 14-50 outlet in California - Issues

Because when I have had hardwired EVSE’s that have failed, I couldn’t just plug in a replacement or a mobile cord. Now I’ve only been driving electric since 2011 (Volt then, Tesla since 2013) so I might not be representative. However, I’ve had 3 EVSE go south in that time. And I spent $5,900...
  9. Charging with 14-50 outlet in California - Issues

Thanks. so…the false tripping is a defect in the Ford EVSE. One present in both of mine. should I return them under warrantee then?
  10. Charging with 14-50 outlet in California - Issues

The rather hidden info for the Ford Mobile Charger also specifies that it is only for a 14-50 outlet WITHOUT GFI. Tesla owners have the issue but much less frequently. See: https://www.teslaownersonline.com/threads/poll-mobile-connector-nema-14-50-gfci-breaker-reliability.7713/ Perhaps the...
  11. Charging with 14-50 outlet in California - Issues

This is a huge issue for heat pumps and other air conditioning too. https://hvac-blog.acca.org/more-states-act-to-prevent-hvac-nuisance-trips-in-response-to-gfci-requirement-in-2020-nec-will-yours/
  12. Charging with 14-50 outlet in California - Issues

Have done. He has done it right. You are correct. We either need a way to disable the CCI in the EVSE or some flex in the code.
  13. Charging with 14-50 outlet in California - Issues

Correct! I’ve reset the GFCI breaker countless times using several different EVSE
  14. Charging with 14-50 outlet in California - Issues

California updated the electrical code recently to require that all newly installed garage outlet circuits be protected by a GFCI circuit breaker in the panel. Unfortunately that means if you install a new NEMA 14-50 outlet in California it WONT WORK reliably with ANY EVSE you plug in. Not with...
  15. Unique use for the ProPower and Hotspot ability of the Ford F-150 Lightning?

I’d just use my phone hotspot rather than pay extra for one in the truck. i never could figure out the business case for automotive hotspots unless for people who don’t have Android or iOS phones. 73 DE KK6RZ
  16. Home Charging Station recommendations?

Autel’s works great for me. Only downside is if you are in sub freezing climate you may find the cable a bit stiff. Software is good, and you can hardwire to your Ethernet or use Wi-FI. For mounting outside, it has option for you to use a RFID card to unlock the station. So only authorized folks...
