That is the key to the whole thing......before trying to re-latch the back up, you need to make sure the seat back and bottom are in the same position they were in when you unlatched it.....because of the sliding latch bar.If you unlatch the seat and fold it down, you may need to move the floating latch bar to align with the latch before it will latch back again. It can be a bit fidgety to get it in the right place since it is hard to see.
It is easiest method is if you have the seat in exactly the same position as when you unlatched it (usually up because that makes it easier to access the latch.). If you have the seat down, you need to move the latch bar to line up.
