So this adds a gasoline powered generator to the truck, making it conceptually a lot like the Chevy Bolt, a hybrid EV/ICE.
...
The Chevy BOLT is a pure EV ( I have two sons who both drive one, and LOVE it )

the older Chevy VOLT was a hybrid, a plug-in variety, where the engine was really only for electricity generation, not to turn the wheels... similar to the design of the Ram 'Charger' truck, which may, or may not, ever come to market... But, there's also a reason it no longer exists: very few folks wanted it.
The Toyota PRIUS, at least the original model, was a Hybrid, and now the Prius is offered in a plug-in version, the Prime. It was named the 'Car of the Year', globally, believe it or not.
The Ford F150 Hybrid works like a regular hybrid - you don't plug it in, it simply has a battery pack to provide extra work load for the engine. It DOES, though, offer ProPower 240v as an option.
Some cars, like my wife's former '22 Kia Sorento PHEV, a PLUG-IN Hybrid, allowed you to run up to 32 miles SOLELY on electrical power, never cranking or running the engine.
Some other plug-in Hybrids, though, like the Chrysler Pacific, DON'T allow 'electric only' mode, which is a shame.

The Pacific has an EPA all-electric range of 32 miles. My daughter drives one.

Our Fusion PHEV had the ability to suspend the electric mode if you wanted to "save" it, like driving local, then highway, then local, so let's not waste it on the highway, called EV Later. We had Auto mode, EV Now mode (electric only).

The problem with a PHEV is that in cold weather, the minute you call for heat the vehicle kicks on the gas engine to warm up to provide heat, so you have to drive to the highway with heat off, using electric only mode, then suspend electric mode as you get on (and now the engine kicks in), then turn on electric when you get off the highway.

Our 21 mile electric range was 13 in the winter...

Sorry I got the names confused, I'll correct it.

The biggest complaint I heard about Volt (hybrid) was that the ICE required high-octane gas.

Don’t have the source, but I think I saw somewhere that Tesla is not providing their Cyber truck range extender anymore either.
Still there to order -- or "reserve" I should say for $500 when you order your CT. Tesla has removed the pricing information for the range extender battery and it only says that it will be coming in late '24. Requires installation at a service center and all that.
