While coming to a stop on the highway in traffic with normal regen braking indicators (not using cruise control or 1 pedal driving) another car pulled in between us and the truck ahead of us. Even though regen brakes were already engaged and we were stopping, pre-collision sensors alerted, brakes engaged hard to a full stop, dash lit up with alerts and chime, and we lost power brakes.

Managed to pull it off highway. Off/on, reset sync.. no change. Let it rest an hour parked, off/on, no change.

Friction brakes are working with the extra effort on the brake pedal I’d expect with power brakes not working, and anytime we come to a near-stop, the parking brake turns on automatically bringing the truck to a sudden lurch-stop.

Got a tow to a dealer here in SoCal (called around and everyone but one quoted a week before they could even look at it). Was very impressed with @Ford Motor Company FordPass Roadside Assistance app and communication for the tow part.

I didn’t see other posts here about brake system faults, so figured I’d mention it.

Really hoping they just need to stick a paperclip in the reset hole to fix it. We have group travel plans next weekend we need a truck with ProPower for.

2023 October build XTL ER with 1,400 miles on it.

My first check would be the fuses. #23, #28, #29 in the frunk fuse panel. While the brakes are hydraulic, they are electrically applied and if the fuses blow, the park brake applies.

You've had a failure in the abs or control system, your dealer will have to diagnose. Could be a sensor, wire, control valve. The parking brake thing is weird too, maybe that's just a setting though.

Update: Brake Booster failed. Part on back order with no ETA.

Waiting to see about a loaner/rental.

A little unnerving to have brakes fail at 1,400 miles.

Got the truck back yesterday 4/12. We went from no eta/no part available, to Ford corp mentioning some sort of expedited process happening, to getting a surprise call the truck was ready.

Can’t recommend Puente Hills Ford in SoCal highly enough. Received proactive update calls from them twice daily, reasonable discussions about getting us a loaner: all very organized.

Also had received a call from Ford after it was towed to dealer Saturday. Spoke with them again Tuesday, when they opened a case and said they would work on expediting a part… no idea the veracity of that having happened.

Best of all, we can stop the truck now. ?

Fingers crossed it was a fluke. The part they replaced was very much electrically fried.

Yesterday I returned from the grocery store and parked my son’s truck in the usual spot and plugged it in. By the time I got back in front of the vehicle to get groceries out of the passenger side the truck began rolling back into the street. The charger pulled out of the port (connector is damaged and needs to be replaced). My son who is recovering from major surgery and limited on activity came into the garage and guided me to park again (we have had snow so wanted to make sure I was completely on a clear spot). I again put the truck in park, turned on the parking brake, vehicle was powered off. I walked around and got two bags of groceries with no problem, but when I went back to get the rest, as I was 1/2 way in the door bending to pick up stuff from the floor board, the truck again began to roll trapping me between the door and the vehicle. I was able to grab the overhead handle and step up on the running board as it rolled back into the street.
I had the dealership come and get the car. My son uses a different service department since the one at his dealership is inefficient, but that is further away. They may get to look at the truck by tomorrow. They don’t see any sensors off, but because I was honest, the sales manager said maybe it is my inexperience driving the vehicle or that it had a low tire pressure light last week, or the severe weather, all that sort of BS when a car guy talks to a woman. I grew up driving a split axle cattle truck so know how to drive and especially part.
Had I slipped (it was raining but hadn’t started to ice over yet) I would have been at least run over by the front wheel.
I am going to try and alert everyone because the service manager said he hadn’t seen any thing on any forum but I saw here that there have been recalls and some issue with wiring on the rear axle or something.
A vehicle in park with a parking brake activated should stay parked.
Regardless of the repair I am ordering an airline bumper or something like that and now refer to the vehicle as Christine (for you Steven King fans).
