Cool… How are you forcing them are you writing directly to the EPROM/ROM? or do you have access to a reformatter like the sync3 had?
No.. unfortunately that isn’t an option with these. I am using the update files . These newer ones are very sensitive to the parameters so it was a pain but I finally figured out a reliable method to update. Sorry if I don’t go into specifics it just was something I had to work on very long time and just got them going recently.

one thing I did want to ask was did you update your gateway module?

I can respect the secrecy especially if you’ve built a business around it…
I‘m all for putting in the time to figure things out :)

Wondering if you have access to the newest version that is shipping in the 22 F150 Platinums? I am wanting to attempt to update my 22 Super duty to the newest version but I cant find the sync4 software anywhere.

I will be able to update to that soon. Waiting to n some things I need for that.
It will need to be tested. They keep changing firmware in modules.

there may be some compatibly problems. In the f150 only 21.5 has 21223 and 21 has 21146. That may be for a reason. Until I test I won’t know

I have the files downloaded.

Correct.

They have newer modules. APIMS are same but several other modules changed.
I just don’t see how this can be sustainable with OTA updates. It's way too much variety and complexity to be able to backport new features to earlier models

I agree. Its completely stupid.

Example of what I THOUGHT was happening was the modules would all be the same and based on what they were installed in FDRS would load the appropriate firmware. Why wouldnt they do this? The new stuff is the same architecture. SO why make a mess of it.

IPC for example.
The IPC has changed Firmware. THE IPC has not changed though. SO you can install a IPC from early into a 21.5 and FDRS will see it and download the appropriate files and update the IPC in accordance to what the truck its going into needs. What I do not understand is if there is an update for the IPC why not update the IPC across the board.

APIM is the same way. You can take an APIM from day one and install into a truck built today. Same thing. You install into a 21 it will LIMIT te update to 21146 you install same APIM in 21.5 and it will take it to 21223

Gateway though is not. You cant cross install. they are different. You try to install a early gateway into a late truck and it will laugh at you versus just doing the smart thing and updating it.

IPMA is the same as gateway

BCM I believe is updatable so it can be used in later builds. I cant say for sure on it.

What you are saying is true. Completely ignorant and stupid approach to relying on OTA for these trucks.

The other part is the modules are different across models. Bronco and superduty. WHY ? Seems Ford just has no real engineer running the ship. They continue to make these idiotic decisions that they need a million part numbers for some stupid reason.

The reason most these owners are not getting OTAs is if they have not had their gateway updated manually at the dealer then the updates wont come through. This is the case for most early builds. Once the Gateway is fully up to date then the OTAs will start to come through.

It’s because they didn’t want to create a new architecture. They just repurposed the GWM to act like an FRDS client and update the modules. There is no reason these vehicles can’t all share a common module design and just use the as-built to define the features and UI.
Sure this would significantly increase the firmware size and initial hardware cost but it would but would reduce the overall cost of designing, maintaining, and manufacturing 1000’s of module variations.
I also realize the effects it would have on suppliers but multiple suppliers could just build the same modules.

Ok, I have all the tools ready for FDRS updates. Before I go an buy a license I want to see if the dealer will do it. What do I say to the service manager? "Please update all my modules"? I think the guy would laugh at me and tell me they need a TBS or recall to do that.

I dont know truthfully what to say. I typically just am honest and tell them that I would like to have my truck updated. If they laugh at you or refuse then I would not want to work with that dealer anyways. I havent had to deal with a dealer in a long time.

The unfortunate reality is these updates are not for you to feel like you have a new iphone it is truly for improving the truck and fixing issues.

Ford doesnt release the updates for the fun of it. I am not saying that for you i am saying it in terms of the dealer needing to understand the way the newer vehicles are these are important to the over function of the vehicle.

The bad part is there are many FUDDs in the car dealer service world. They think computers in cars are stupid and we need to go back to carburetors.

I could point you to the APIM update as a TSB if you dont have that update yet TSB 21-2310 . Maybe you specifically state you have Sync issues and would like while its there to have all applicable updates done.

so the 21223 is the new version shipping in the 2022 F150? thats the one I am after to attempt to install in my 22 super duty. Id have to look but I have 21146 in the APIM currently. Ford has severly botched this OTA/Update process. My GWM in the 22 super duty is the same as the 21 F150.

21136 and 21223 is what is on early 21.5 and late 21.5

I haven’t been able to pull a 22 yet to see.

the gateway is not the same . The f150 has two different gateways between 21 and 21.5

bronco is different. Edge is different. Mach e is different.

Early super duty shipped with 21136 an earlier build of 21223

My bad I wasnt with my truck just had the wife check my 22 super duty is 21136, as for me saying the GWM was the same I just meant same style as F150, when I ordered the perimeter plus alarm I had to get the one for an F150. I dont have any 22 F150s around me that I can get the software version off of, im sure theres someone whos taken delivery of one by now though. I dont even know if ill be able to put the software from a 22 F150 onto my APIM but I would like to try.

If you have 21136 then 21223 is a direct upgrade for you.

From my understanding the Super duty has the newer gateway firmware from the beginning.

Also the APIM software is the same. I just sent a guy an APIM for a bronco Worked 100%

I ordered an APIM for a Edge and they sent me a F150 part number.

So I believe the only time they worry about part numbers is at the time of build
