Chipping paint on bumper

Hey,
Anyone here experience this chipping in the paint on black bumper? Noticed this yesterday, took it to ford they said someone maybe previous owner used a chemical or did a botched paint job to cover damage.. not sure. But I’m not sure what best next move is. It’s on clips, I could pull it off, sand it, and respray with a matte black 2 step automotive paint.. what do you guys think?

I have the same peeling/chipping on mine. I found a dealer with a paint shop that said they would repaint under warranty. I haven’t bothered yet as I’d be without my truck without a loaner for 2-3 days. Another forum member told me he sanded and repainted using bed liner paint and it looked pretty good. It might even potentially be more robust paint.

I had same thing and as above stated just sanded it down and painted the whole piece with Black bedliner spray paint. Blended right in. I also didnt want to be without the truck while the dealership touched it up... This was easily 6 months ago and is holding up strong.

That part should be replace able.

It's replaceable. Mine broke. Part number NL3Z17B968AA.

Mine is doing the same thing! 2023. Definitely shouldn't be doing this already! Ford should replace if it's under warranty shouldn't they?

Did you remove the part before prepping/painting?

No I got lazy and just taped off and masked the front. It came out perfect, its a satin so blends right in.

I ended up ordering a replacement. $160. I did a little further investigation and found the previous owner definitely hit something as some metal is bent behind the piece, and he did a bad job repainting. Getting the new part in today. Thanks for the suggestions guys!
