Good morning! I’m looking to see if someone can confirm that when replacing the front speakers on the standard audio system on the XLT, the new component speaker tweeters should be wired directly to the factory tweeter wiring and not to the aftermarket speaker as the instructions state. I’m assuming that since the factory system must already have a cross over built in so the factory 6x9 door speaker doesn’t get a full range audio signal. Is my thinking correct?

This has come up before and a forum member was nice enough to supply a wiring diagram for the six speaker setup indicating the lack of a crossover. From what I've seen, those who replace their 6x9s and tweeters with two-way speakers just place the included crossovers in the A-pillars, only hooking them up to the tweeters.

Edit: Here's an older post regarding this with more information.

Yep, you’re right the factory tweeter wiring already has a basic crossover (usually a capacitor), so if you’re keeping the stock wiring, wire your new tweeters directly to the factory tweeter wires, not through the aftermarket crossover.

I'm curious, do you have any documentation regarding this you can point us to? I've never seen this mentioned.

I believe the crossover is built into the tweeter. Removing the factory tweeter also removes the crossover. I ran my tweeter using new wires to my aftermarket components breakout box for the speaker and tweeter, for the door speakers I used the vehicle wiring and a wire harness from the head unit, but I'm also using an aftermarket amp for the speakers.

Thanks. This was my assumption. If replacing the tweeters and keeping the factory wiring I recommend using the crossovers provided with the components.
