I gained over an inch more foot room by removing part of the lower console. Feels much better. I have been driving it this way for a few weeks. I don’t feel like my shoe would get stuck or jammed up.

I don't really have an issue with foot room to the right of the gas pedal, however I do think that the two pedals are too far apart. The brake pedal is way too far to the left IMO. I wish it was closer to the gas pedal and then both of them could be shifted slightly to the right.

I agree. The brake pedal is almost a inch closer as well. Ever notice that in a stick shift car, the pedals are evenly lined up? I don't know why Ford doesn't do that.

My bet is it is a holdover from the sudden unintended acceleration/floor mat entanglement fears 20 years or so ago. Having the brake further away and sticking out probably slightly reduces the chances you’d hit the gas and the brake (even though modern electronically controlled engines can obviously be made to cut out if somebody hits both pedals hard at once).
