I may be the exception here, but after feeling like I was duped into thinking Ford actually was making an affordable electric truck for the working man, and not some darn yuppie or DINK group, I’m pist off.
Ford sang praises that the Lightning would start at $39,995, or whatever the figure was, and we can’t even get the darn truck. Now, they dump paint colors and force us to grey, black, and white, and blow the lid off with $8500 increases!
Blah, blah, blah… costs are going up. Yeah, so what? The Lightning used to be unique, but they can’t come close to a realistic range, are requiring most of us to mortgage the farm to upgrade our electric service at home to charge this truck, and are playing games with orders so that no one knows when they’ll get a truck, or better yet, IF! By the time 2024 rolls around reservations are starting to clear, the dang trucks will cost double what was originally quoted, and we’ll still have crappy range. Yup. Electric is the way. So much better. What a blunder.
When will America tell these auto manufacturers to shove their overpriced vehicles? I understand batter manufacturing and materials have gone up. Okay. But we’ll before material and labor costs went nuts, the basic truck or car went up substantially. And we pay it.
I guess I’m just irritated. I thought a Lightning was a REAL possibility for me. Then when they released initial pricing, it was much more than they promised. Then, it’s gone up incredibly more, pushing much further out of reality, and what I reserved is not what I was promised. And, it looks like the tax credit will be a pipe dream as well. Only the rich will afford these trucks, or momma’s spoiled brats.
Realistically, I hope reservations plummet and send a signal. The working man’s electric truck is now no different than the Hummer or Rivian.

"The Lightning used to be unique" what before the price hike? 30k-50k could cancel or push their reservation and Ford wouldn't care or feel it. In fact that might be a strategy to lighten up and get more hype with them taking new reservations of people that missed out originally. Just think the all new 2023 switching to a no haggle dealer free buying experience in January just before the Silverado has a chance to gain steam. These vehicles are being produced and purchased not at a rate anyone is pleased with but it's real and not vaporware. Do I want to pay more hell no but I want one and still plan on ordering one.

Did Ford stop selling ICE F-150’s? I must have missed that memo…

I feel very lucky to have received a truck, and I do empathize with the frustrations of those without one. I nearly turned mine away after my frustrations with SunRun, learning how near vaporware the HIS was, and the prospect of having to potentially sign a no-sell contract.

Ultimately, what turned a corner for me was NOT having to sign a no-sell, and the secondary prices on the trucks given their unavailability.

Which latter point about secondary prices might also offer some small solace to those frustrated but still hopeful of receipt: there are not a lot of vehicles that might appreciate >20% when driven off the lot, as opposed to depreciate >20% when driven off the lot. That’s not nothing?

Ford may have just raised prices considerably, and those prices appear to reflect a combination of inflation (which ALL manufacturers are reflecting) as well as the value of additional equipment coming in trim levels. At the same time, at least for the foreseeable near term future, those that can get their hands on an F150L are likely being handed +20% or more on their money… all for the same reasons it’s hard to get your hands on one in the first place.

Still, vent on I’m not here to deny you that pleasure. I’ve done my fair share of venting, even having received the truck.

I get your rant and feel some bitterness but if you step back and think realistically, an entry level truck used to be much more affordable and comparable to cars.
But, In the last two decades, truck buying use case and demographics has changed and that’s what Ford and other companies are catering too.
I don’t see stripped down entry level XL around and see 60k+ lariats and platinums. Electric F-150 pricing works for that client group.
