My Va DMV card says:
6,015 EW (Empty Weight) and
8,250 GW (Gross Weight = EW PLUS max weight to be carried)

2023 Pro, SR, max trailer tow, tow tech (less on-board scales), pro-power 9.6kW

In the US 2,000lbs per ton is used on roads/bridges, other countries will differ.

Bridge weight limits - with examples for agricultural vehicles and uh-oh pictures: https://ops.fhwa.dot.gov/publications/fhwahop16068/index.htm

"Axle weight limits aren't just bureaucratic hurdles — they're critical safeguards for safety and infrastructure. Overloaded trucks pose a triple threat:

  • Increased stopping distances: Imagine a loaded elephant trying to stop on a dime — that's the risk with overloaded trucks, significantly raising the risk of accidents.
  • Tire blowouts: Excessive pressure can lead to tire blowouts, potentially causing loss of control and endangering everyone on the road.
  • Bridge and road damage: Those behemoths put immense strain on bridges and pavements, accelerating their deterioration and costing taxpayers dearly in repairs."

The max axle weight by state (shows how length between axles factors in to the calculation) for large/heavy haul trucks, fyi:

.... I guess the 'spread' of axles allows for a larger overall weight
Have you ever noticed trucks or trailers with "extra" wheels that didn't seem to be used?

They can be lowered to spread out the full weight over more axles when needed. Raising them up allows them to not wear or add drag when not needed.

Wow, today I learned.. I always thought those were for spares or going over a sharp hump, didn't know they lowered down to spread the weight of the cargo.

Ford F-150 Lightning FYI: Your truck is >3 tons img_1564-jpe

I took some stuff in to recycle and had him snap a photo of the weight of the truck without me in it, (if you look closely, you can see the digital scale weight in the picture -LOL)
Is it just me, or did anyone else think of ET hiding in the closet when they saw this? 🤣

To remove the speculation and data for the thread:

2022 Lariat ER: Actual CAT scale weight is 7140 with a 200lb driver. Just a tad over 3.5 tons
my 2023 Lariat ER with max tow and tonneau, 7010 coming out of the metal recycling. So then I weigh 70#? 😆

Georgia's HOV and Hot Lane 'rules' for EVs extend to those with 'special' EV Plates, although, I will argue, if pulled over, that my LIGHTNING's special '240 V' plate is 'special', and I paid dearly for it, and it should then be considered an EV 'special' plate by the state, and the authorities : )
(I think they mean an actual 'special' "EV" plate, charged for $300... oh well)
What exactly does the tag get you other than being exempt from HOV lane rules? Ive considered getting it but unfamiliar with it and its quite expensive.

I should’ve noted max tow, tow tech, and pro power on my truck. So you’re probably closer to 72lbs.
