Picked up a screw in a tire yesterday, so I stopped by Discount Tire in North Dallas today. The manager checking me in, Adam, asked what kind of vehicle. I told him a Ford Lightning. He knows his vehicles, without missing a beat he asked what year, something around a 01 or 02? I said, well no more like a ā€˜22. And his eyes lit up and he said oh really letā€™s go, I want to see it.

The crazy part, once we talked a minute he actually remembered me from last June - 8 months ago. I put a new set of tires on a Model 3 and swapped the tires that came off to another model 3. It was so we could sell one. To say the least after realizing it was the new Lightning he said oh yeah you were selling a Tesla to get ready for it and we swapped tires. I thought that was pretty amazing after almost 8 months, great guy.

So these trucks have some major interest from many that still havenā€™t seen one up close. I told him Iā€™d stop by and let him drive it one day in the next week or two.

Thatā€™s really cool. Most discount tires around me are really great too.

I have a less fun screw in tire story, but it involves Costco tire. I got a screw in my tire when I first got my Lightning in June last year. I noticed leaving the office around 8pm when every other tire place was closed except Costco. I called on my way and then went over there To have them patch the tire. I thought it would be simple and I could grab some groceries while I wait. Wrong.

After 45 minutes, they called me saying their computer system hadnā€™t been updated for the torque setting for the lightning so they refused to to take the wheel off. Really nice guys but said corporate wouldnā€™t allow it even though they were almost certain itā€™s the same setting for an ICE F-150. It took an hour of me calling some corporate manager, calling Ford corporate, emailing the Costco regional manager, the pertinent excerpt from the owners manual showing the correct setting, and some real convincing to get them to do it. I guess they were really nervous about liability.

Interesting you note this. That set of tires I bought from Discount, was actually a little cheaper at Costco. However Costco wouldn't sell them to me and put them on the 3 because their computer system didn't say it was a valid tire for my car, but the specs matched 100%. Discount is my first Go To now.
