Has anyone removed steering wheel to add a replacement steering wheel cover?

I’m wondering how hard this would be. I ordered and received a steering wheel cover from Texas custom interiors. It’s really nice quality. It wraps around the current steering wheel. The main issue I am having is getting the ends of the new wrap to go under the trim on the back of the steering wheel. I’m wondering if anyone else has taken on a project like this. I am fully sensitized to the criticality of the airbag and do not want to create any issues. It seems to some people say it’s just much easier to complete the project by removing the steering wheel.

Removal of the wheel is the only way to fly. On another note, is your already leather wrapped wheel damaged in some way or are you just wanting a different look/texture?

I wouldn't put anything over the factory leather partially due to the heating factor.

Leather currently. Different look. Since it is completely reversible, I want to see how well is works. I will say the heater in the steering wheel is a bit misplaced anyway . It’s not where my hands are.
