I’m thinking about this rack. I occasionally haul long ladders, lumber, mouldings, etc., but want something I can use only when needed. Anyone have one of these? Thoughts?

Did you buy this rack, and if so, how’s it working?

Installed it today. Decent set of instructions with photos. It went together pretty well. I didn’t get to the part that cantilevers over the cab, and I’ll have to do some disassembly of the front rack in order to attach the extension. No big deal. One of the 8 clamps had bad threads and wouldn’t tighten. Called customer service and a human answered and said he’d send me parts right away.
Seems very sturdy. I’ll use it for ladders and 2-3 dozen 2x4’s, mouldings, etc.— nothing too crazy.

I wanted something that would fold down out of the way when I did not need it. I could not find anything so I made something instead. No tools required to fold it down. The cab over piece is detachable, the rear horizontal can swing out or be removed.

Dude, you’re a baller. I just finished clamping my removable one back on. I got a little smarter and got an impact bit holder and a 8mm hex tip to speed up the process. Nice job on yours!

I really like this setup. Would you mind sharing the parts you purchased?
How much of it did you have to weld yourself? I was thinking about something like this vs my own build with AL extrusion. I just dont know the proper hinges/quick bolts, ect.

Thanks!

I thought about doing it in aluminum but my skills are better with steel and parts are easier to find. I did all of the welding and had all the mild steel powder coated. The purchased parts are from McMasterCarr. Below is a rough list of parts, probably not entirely complete however.
stainless strut - https://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/33085T89
stainless strut nuts - https://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/3259T122
stainless cleats - https://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/33805T112
stainless adjustable clamp handles - https://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/6522K82
strut hinge - https://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/3505T12
weld nuts - https://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/90596A280

Mounting the strut was a little tricky, I had to cut away the plastic on the top of the bed rail to expose the stake holes then figure out a mounting bracket that could fit in the stake hole which the strut could bolt to. I ended up fabricating something like what is in these tie-down rings Ford Flush Fit Tie Down Anchors | 2015+ F150 | 2017+ Super Duty | BullRing USA

If you want some more detailed pics, PM me and let me know what details you are looking for.
