If this is the case, from the manual, then it should also add a reminder to disable the backup-stop nanny, unless it's a different issue causing his brakes to activate...

Yes, that would be nice. That quote is on page 369 of my 2023 manual btw.

I haven't dug into the manual for that issue but maybe there is something in there about that?

My truck sometimes doesn't want me to back up if there is a building behind me many many feet away and engages my brakes until I press hard on the accelerator, always happens at one particular location, no trailer or boat attached, no person or car behind or approaching, surprised me the first time it happened.

But it did save me one time when I was backing out of a parking space in a parking lot and a car had just entered and was approaching from the side at an elevated speed.

In my 2023 manual, in the reverse braking assist section, it says (at p 242+):

Note:When you connect a trailer, the
system may detect the trailer and provide
an alert, or the system turns off. If the
system does not turn off, manually switch
the system off after you connect the trailer.

It would just blow a fuse or pop the tail light bulb from what I've read, although over time corrosion could make the connections inoperative...not life threatening

If water gets into the light fixtures, corrosion will happen regardless if the light is energized. Obviously if the light is an old incandescent light and therefore hot, and water gets in, the glass will shatter. I know from my own experience growing up in the 70s that my parents ski boat trailer had incandescent lights and the fixture was open at the bottom so water would drain out, but the bulb was dry and as far as I remember, we never blew a bulb when launching or recovering the boat. Think of the fixture as a plastic jar that is upside down and the bulb was near the top (not that shape obviously).
12 volts in fresh water is not going to conduct enough current to blow a fuse, and even salt water is likely not going to draw enough current to blow a fuse.
