Every Lightning in the south makes this noise
Including the vibration in the steering wheel? That's crazy. They did find something with mine at least so there was something wrong. I suspect the sound may be "A/C compressor at full blast" and my case might be "A/C compressor at full blast because some valve somewhere was stuck". We'll find out more when the final paperwork comes through (I'll at least make sure I know exactly what part they replaced)

At full blast, yes there is a small vibration that feeds back into the steering wheel. As you mentioned in your post, the temps dropped and the noise stopped. I wouldn’t worry or be surprised they say no trouble found.

I’ve sometimes noticed a “whirring” sound when I turn on the a/c. I turn it off and then back on and the noise is gone. And the a/c works/has worked fine.

If they found something on mine, I wonder if you have the same deal. I think it'll end up being a sticky valve somewhere, but we'll see.

Finally at full resolution for this. Three total trips to the dealer, and it's fixed. The actual fix was scheduled while I was vacationing (Vegas!) so it was extra convenient. There's still SOME sound when the AC is running, but it's significantly less annoying and creates less vibration.

As a double bonus: the musty smell from my AC is gone (probably because the musty AC is gone!).

It's never "fun" to have to go back and forth to get a warranty thing fixed, but overall this was pretty good. Ford warranty paid them for a loaner when I needed it. It just took a while to get the parts and we had a false start (I took the truck in, whoops we missed a part, had to take it back a couple weeks later)... but I also know there are folks where who might have the same issue I did but got rebuffed by their dealers not to get it fixed :). Make noise! Complain! Get your things fixed for free while you can :).

I'll attach the (heavily redacted) actual invoice but will summarize (Jay-I not AI):

- Verified customer concern is only present when AC is on, no codes found
- Ran OASIS for TSB/SSM found none
- Noise is loudest from the climate controll A/C compressor
- Installed AC Gauges and verified AC charge level
- AC Compressor has internal fault; recommend replacing compressor and flushing system.

[ I assume this is when I got the call and had to wait for parts]

- Recovered all refrigerant from the climate control AC system
- Removed AC compressor
- Removed Front Bumper & Manifold & tube assembly to access AC evaporator and condensor for flushing
- Flushed for 15 minutes each followed by 30 minutes of purging to remove all solvent from heat exchangers. Total time to flush AC heat exchangers 2.0.
- Installed new AC Compressor
- Installed new TXV
- Installed new Receiver Dryer
- Replaced all AC gaskets and seals per WSM
- Pulled vacuum on AC system for 40 minutes and charged system with .610KG of R1234YF.
- Tested verified AC blows cold, no abnormal noise.

The parts listed are (I'll let you look at the doc if you want the part numbers:
- Compressor ASY
- Valve ASY - EV
- Dehydrator ASY
- Kit - Air COND
- Kit
- Kit
- O Ring
- Kit - Flushing

You did get this under the emission warranty or standard warranty? Mine just got diagnosed and looks like a $3500 fix. But they said its part of the battery cooling so that should be emissions?
@TaxmanHog is the Air Conditioning compressor tied to the high voltage battery cooling?
