While I appreciate that it is possible to charge another EV from the outlet in the Lightning's bed - at the cost of taking 2x the AC/DC conversion losses of just charging either vehicle from grid AC directly - I am wondering whether the Lightning actually includes the software and hardware required for true V2V DC charging or not.

This would require a CCS male to male cable, which I have never seen (I have seen Chademo cables like this in video demonstrations) and some means of limiting the DC charge current, as well as software to emulate a CCS charger rather than a vehicle.

I'm sure some day this will be a thing. But is it a thing for our vehicles or not? I'm guessing not.

You can’t effectively charge one battery from another by simply hooking them together. The source voltage has to be higher than the target battery voltage by a specific amount in order to get the desired charging current. So there would have to be some sort of DC-DC converter in the source vehicle that can be switched in and out of the circuit between the HVB and the CCS connector.
Our trucks won’t have that and it’s likely too costly for such an infrequent use case.
