I was hoping it would come sooner than this. This is reinforces my decision to quit nursing an old car and got into something that was available already. A lot can change in a year or two.

Two months later, the details of the Scout delay are becoming clearer. 87% of reservations are for the Scout EREV version, so that is where the Company is spending their efforts, not the EV.

Scout’s Delay Story Is Really About Volkswagen Running Out of Easy Answers

I found the discussion interesting about the EREV version having serious issues with heat: The four-cylinder generator setup is described as creating excessive heat under the cargo floor, with one summary citing temperatures above 200 degrees Celsius in that area during testing. This issue may be related to the towing capacity dropping from 10k for the EV version to 5k for the EREV version.

Adding to VWs issues: the Rivian partnership on software didn't include the EREV version, so VW must come up with that on their own.

This article casts doubt the pickup version will make it to customers by 2030. I have no idea how bias this magazine is, this may not be factual information.

Color me shocked, more excuses. It’s really convenient that all of these companies can’t figure out something so simple. Maybe put the generator where the engine would’ve gone? That must be too difficult. Sorry I’m neither surprised by this nor do I have any hope that this will come to any level of fruition that this was originally presented to anyone who wanted one. It will be a lot like the bmw i3, it will have many problems and no real practical application.
