If you always buy the gap insurance with a loan, and never used it, that's wasted money, no?
I suppose so, but the same could be said for life insurance and I’m pretty happy to report that hasn’t been a great investment! ?.

I guess I could eat a $10,000 bill if my new vehicle was totaled and I needed to pay off the existing loan. But then I’d also need to come up with a new down payment for a replacement vehicle and get a new loan. The $2-300 to get GAP insurance seems pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.

Ford Red Carpet lease includes GAP insurance. Another reason to lease with no down payment.

Congrats. I must admit I am saddened that our fully loaded Lariat ER with 28k miles probably isn't worth more than 40k. I've never had a vehicle lose value so quickly. All of our previous trucks were Chevy or GMC diesels which had great resale value.

Our Lightning powers our house daily, so in 50 years we will break even if it doesn't burn our house down at some point

The huge depreciation is not just only limited to Lightnings. Most other EVs have suffered the same depreciation. It started in 2023 when Tesla dropped prices due to competition.

I bought my 2023 Tesla Model Y long range AWD on 12/15/22. 2 months later on 2/10/23 my wife bought the same car, different color for $20,000 less after Musk dropped prices and it was now eligible for $7,500 tax credit.

Ford has also been all over the place with EV prices. In July 2023 they dropped prices of Lightnings by almost $10,000 and reinvoiced trucks in inventory on July 19, 2023 with lower price. The new lower price made Lariat ER eligible for the $7,500 tax credit.

In the same 3 year time frame I ordered and bought 2 new F-350s and 3 new F-450s with X-plan and when I sold them I sold a few of them for over $10,000 more than I paid for them.

Market has been crazy since covid. It seems like it’s stabilizing now but with tariffs the prices can get crazy again.

Hey All,

So i pulled the trigger. Friday on my way home from work i made some offers to a few dealerships i was researching trucks from. Well.. I just drove the 431 miles home after picking it up, because one of the dealerships matched all my other offers and threw in 12month/12k mile warranty to sweeten the deal.
