Did you know? Winter driving comes with risks—late November often brings heavy snowfalls, and cold weather can reduce tire pressure and battery power. It’s also easy to forget the tools and floor mats that can save you in a roadside emergency or during the snow/ice cleanup.
With 30% OFF sitewide for Black Friday, now’s the perfect time to get your ride winter-ready.

  1. Easy on the speed.
    1. Frequent “black ice”,
    2. Road debris
    3. Rain downpours/roadside slumps & blocked culverts.
    4. Storm wind
    5. Elk & deer
  2. Winter coat, gloves, hat
  3. Flares & good flashlight
  4. Chainsaw (+ spare battery)
  5. Don't use one pedal
  6. Rarely offer a tow, too freakin’ dangerous.
  7. Tires at 36 psi & questionable tread means replace in late summer-early fall.
I’ve nearly a million miles on the same road… occasional stops to help travelers (flat tires or out of gas). I’ve reported road blocking trees/landslides, brushfires, worked with other drivers to clear downed trees. Had two deer strikes, avoided countless elk and deer and beer strikes. Stopped for many accidents; motorcycle, freight trucks, RVs, commuters, etc.

Two speeding tickets! A few warnings.

Speed kills.

A typical story.

So one eve I’d gotten out of a meeting late, nearly 11 pm and I got into my Subaru XT coupe and just laid into the pedal because “whose going be on the road this late?”. 15 minutes later I round a curve at 85+ and light up a state patrol Crown Vic. Took me 500 feet to slow dow.

So I get out of the coupe, sigh and as the trooper walks up I say

“My God it’s nearly midnight, you should be home in bed!”.

He laughs and says “Clam Tide”.

”Oh apologies, if I’d realized that I would’ve slowed down, I left the courthouse late”

”What was your speed?

”I really wasn’t looking but north of 80”

Then we talked hunting and fishing for 45 minutes. Finally he..

Looks straight up “It’s a clear night”

Looks straight down “The road is dry”

Looks at the XT “You’re driving a nice car”…

”How about I write you up for 65?”

”Thats very kind of you”.

So he writes me up, saving thousands $$$ and then says

“There’s none of us south of here.. have a good evening“

It's 83.2 degrees F. outside right now (Thanksgiving day for anyone reading this thread in the future).
