Hi everyone,

New to the forum, so apologies if this isn't the right spot for this kind of post.

But, I'm in the market for a used lightning and think I've narrowed down to 2 top options and the key things I'm thinking about with each, both being 2022 Lariats:

Option 1:

  • ER Battery
  • Higher mileage at ~75k miles
  • Car fax mentions battery replaced last year. The dealer the car is at currently didn't perform the service so they didn't have much background on what exactly was serviced. So, I'm unsure if it was a full battery replacement or just a module replacement.
  • Equipment Group 511A
Option 2:

  • SR Battery
  • Lower mileage at ~50k miles
  • Equipment Group 510A
I don't plan on needing to do much long distance driving/road tripping in the truck nor needing to do any heavy towing. So, ER battery likely isn't a must have, but I admit would be nice. Because of that, I may be leaning towards Option 1 with the ER and also because selfishly, it's in a color I like more.

My questions are:

  • Any concerns with the battery replacement noted on the CarFax for Option 1?
  • Any long term reliability concerns with Option 1 having 25k more miles?
  • Still have yet to do any negotiating on price, but Option 1 might be in the ball park of $2K-$3K more in price. Is ER worth the extra price despite higher mileage and replaced battery?
  • Any thing else I should consider when comparing used options or keep an eye out for?
Appreciate any thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Likely there was a module replacement, several trucks have had this service done with success and no further issues, a few have had multiple modules replaced on first visit, and a few have had subsequent module replacements on second incidents.

The history for higher mileage trucks has been reported on the forum, many perfectly flawless, others with various issues, we don't have enough data give odd's, a forum members is tracking all trucks with battery issues, but remember that is a limited quantity in relation to trouble free truck on the forum, and more so in the wild.

IMHO, buy the ER in the color you like.

Test the HVAC system, make sure the truck produces good heat, test drive it to a DCFC and do a charging session, also test charging at level-2 type station right at the dealership.

Look at the rear lightbar on the tailgate for water infiltration, remind them (if this a Ford dealership) that there is a recall on this issue to be addressed when supplies are available.

A module replacement or not does not seem in any way to indicate the likelihood of a future module replacement.

50k or 75k isn't a huge difference either way, about the only thing being you are slightly closer to the 8yr 100k battery warranty.

The other points taxman made are 100% spot on!

If you are considering an extended warranty look to Granger here on the forum. You are outside the 3yr/36k but I believe their are options to make it work. Remember though that that does NOT change the battery warranty.
