I got the same e-mail, with an inaccurate initial date range, and yeah, that absolute classic "ensure my complete satisfaction" line. Yes, guys. What I wanted more than anything to make this a five-star experience was for my truck to sit in a freight rail parking lot 20 miles from the factory for six weeks. That's definitely what was top on my list of "What I expect from a top-tier manufacturer."

I've had a chance to sleep on it and I feel that they did / are doing "something" to the trucks (besides delaying delivery). I don't know what it is but seeing the large number of easily fixable problems that flood these forums it could be literally anything. Maybe we'll thank them if we ever find out what it was. I'm going to check the mileage of my truck when I receive it and see if it was significantly more than others for my own curiosity .

My sunny-side-up disposition has been sitting in the sun a bit too long and now it has done what eggs do sitting in the sun for 3.5 weeks in a parking lot in Michigan.

I've spent far too long today scouring the internet and questioning any CS rep I could get for a few minutes trying to figure out anything with the schedule and this absurd process. I've seen mobsters talk more about the people involved than the NVST does. According to the process I've thoroughly researched (and I'm filling in a few blanks here) a magical transport truck that shoots rainbows out of the tailpipe suddenly appears and takes your vehicle to a train when enough sacrifices have been made to Marduk, the transport god of Ford. That train then goes through a black hole and at some point shows up "near" your dealer. Next, a man named "Frank" or sometimes "Stu" picks the truck up with his bare hands and sets it gently on the transport vehicle and drives it to your dealer. Sometimes this process takes 7 days, sometimes 7 weeks (depending on the phase of the moon), but the number 7 is always involved.

It's certainly possible I'm wrong about it sitting in a parking lot for the last three weeks, but all I've got to go on is what Ford tells me. I just can't imagine Ford has anything to do with my truck right now, like making tweaks or testing it or anything, because it's located in a rail yard. Ford doesn't own the rail yard. Ford didn't transport the truck to that rail yard. They already relinquished custody to a short-haul over-road shipping company, which then relinquished custody to the rail yard. Why this would be the point that Ford did anything with the truck doesn't make sense to me. I'd be very happy to be wrong about this, of course.

From all I've read, there are numerous purgatories the trucks may find themselves in. I've been through a few of them:

1. Hypothetical purgatory, where the truck is reserved but not ordered. For me this lasted from May 19, 2021 until Oct. 11, 2022, about 16.5 months.

2. Ordered but not built purgatory, where the truck is in a more comforting hypothetical state, one where it's more likely keys will change hands at some point, but still, the truck isn't real yet. For me, Oct. 11 to Oct. 28.

3. In production but not built purgatory, where the truck is in some ambiguous state of construction. This stage of purgatory starts when the VIN is created, which is the point you can no longer fiddle with the options for your truck build. This could last three days or three months. Ford's pretty loose on this one. This includes sub-purgatories of chip hold, pulled-for-quality-control and bed liner. For me, Oct. 28 to Nov. 5.

4. Built but not shipped purgatory, where it's no longer inside of the factory, nor sitting in a holding lot because it needs more work, but not on its way to its ultimate destination. For me, Nov. 5 to Nov. 8.

5. In transit purgatory, where it has been received by a shipping company, but hasn't arrived at the dealership yet. This could take weeks and involve sub-purgatories at rail yards on either end of a major rail journey and holding pens for transfers from one trucker to another. For me, Nov. 8 to present (more than three weeks).

6. Delivered but not received by the customer purgatory, where the dealership has the truck but it hasn't been inspected by the dealership yet, or it has been inspected and has failed that inspection for some reason. This could be completed the same day or take months, depending on whether, oh, just throwing out a hypothetical, the car hauler with your truck on top of it smashes your truck into a tree canopy, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

There's a remarkable amount of opportunities for these vehicles to find themselves in an indefinite delay from the point they're reserved to the point you get to drive one. It doesn't surprise me at all we've got guys right in this forum trying to find trucks that are sitting on dealer lots ready to take home. This process is nuts.

That's fantastic news, man! Congratulations. Seems somebody finally hit "send" on all of the New York trucks. Add this to the list of anecdotes about Ford's tracking system being functionally worthless. How long will it be before you're driving this beauty?
