I'm thinking a 2FA would be a good deterrent. Something like entering a Google authenticator code to allow the vehicle to drive.

I really wish Ford would implement pin-to-drive. I know relay attacks have been used to steal teslas as well, but how many that had pin-to-drive enabled were stolen? Probably zero.
Pretty rare as 95% of Tesla's don't come with a FOB. IMO the better fix may be PAAK + the existing backup system.

[F-150 Second Highest Theft in US]

According to Joe Blogs the F-150 is the second highest stolen vehicle in the US. Thieves can easily duplicate your key fob signal and use that technology to steal your pickup. He suggests that similar to the telephone having to input your security code before using Ford should create a security code input before being able to start your pickup. My Tesla has that security code that I create to allow me as an option to safeguard my car from theft. So if a thief gets into your pickup truck he has to know and input your code before it will start. I would like to see Ford create an OTA update that would allow owners to use a security code before the truck can be started. Ford, are you listening?

I know, go back to the traditional key with an immobilizer chip for the ignition. Can still have keyless entry - although I wonder if that is still a bad idea.

Just don’t use the Hyundai/Kia system.

One impediment to TFA might be service at the dealer. Teslas don't go to dealers (usually). Whereas at the dealer, a service tech probably wants/needs full access to your truck's functionality. Maybe valet mode won't do. As soon as you start sharing a pin out with other folks, that pin is no longer totally secure. Perhaps one could just disable the need for a pin while your truck is at the dealer or allow temporary pins in full-driving mode and create a unique pin for each trip to the dealer

I always disabled it in my tesla when I took it for service if I could remember. When I didn't they'd call and I'd just tell them the pin. It's not really an issue, change it when you get it back.

Probably easier to remember if you create a unique new pin to send your car off to the dealer, then revert to your well-known pin when you get your vehicle back, rather than have to create and learn a new driver's pin every time you get your vehicle back from the dealer. That was essentially the last sentence in my previous post: "... allow temporary pins in full-driving mode and create a unique pin for each trip to the dealer."

I guess my key drawer needs to be turned into a faraday cage.
Yes this is one step but remember your phone is in your pocket too and is PAAK. I have my keyfobs in a faraday box already but that doesn't help when both my wife and I are walking around the house with our phones. PIN to drive is the solution.

This just seems needlessly complex, much like Ford's preconditioning schedules, preferred charge times, etc etc.... just keep it simple.

No PaaK then a Faraday box for the key fobs will work to keep the thieves at bay, at least while at home. There are still challenges in public places like malls. You can carry a keyfob Faraday sleeve to put your keyfob in after the truck is locked. The drive PIN immobilizer is much simpler. Get in, enter the PIN, and drive away.
