Agreed, I'm certain you should be fine to claim the credit later when you file your 1040 for tax year 2025!!My dealer wouldn't do the POS credit, but I wouldn't leave until I had IRS Form 15400 in my hand proving the sale was properly reported for me to get my credit when I filed (which I did successfully). I didn't even have to push for it, I may have mentioned the credit to them, but the manager submitted the sale while I was doing other paperwork. He even printed out screenshots of the IRS portal at each stage to show that he did it right. Mine was only the second time he's done it (very small dealer) but he was already set up and familiar with how to do it. He said he pays attention to all the emails he gets from Ford.
So if you can't get the credit POS, I think it's acceptable to leave with Form 15400 since there's little chance you won't get the credit at tax time.
If a dealer is NOT participating with the sales reporting process ie. securing a legal Form 15400, that one should also walk away.
