This is it for me. This is my first Ford and the best truck ive owned and we loved it so much it pushed my wife into getting a Mach E. They'd likely have had Ford family for life, but now it will be the last Fords we own, not going to allow another rug pull despite how happy I am with the vehicle.
why punish the Mache? At this point it is in its 6th model year (2026), and it’s rock solid. There isn’t another cross over EV I would want to drive. I just got a new one and certainly had the chance to pick another brand if I wanted to. For transparency, the only other car I liked (without spending Porsche money) was the Cadillac Optiq because of the interior. The mache looks better outside and I much prefer how it drives.

I don’t know what to do about my Lightning when the lease is up. I guess I will decide whether to keep it then. My plan from the beginning was to buy it out, but now the residual is sure to be much higher than value of the car at that time.

They may sell it to you for market value. I’ve done that twice in same scenario

I did that many years ago with Cadillac. I have heard that ford refuses and puts all the EVs back in a national wholesale program. Anyone here have success with an EV at lease end?

My lease is up at the end of July in 2027. I guess I'll wait and see what things look like in June of 2027. It's an amazing truck, and my mileage will only be in the low 40K range (at the rate I'm going), so it will certainly be a good value. If the EREV version is available at that time I'll at least see what they have to offer me.

Good point. I only put about 7600 miles a year on my lightning.

Perhaps this is a hedge from Ford. Maybe the next gen truck needs until 2030 to have a pack of their desired specification, think Sodium or one of the many Solid State variants. So until then they continue the Lightning as an EREV to see if they can transition more ICE buyers.

Until Ford is able to sell 100,000 to 300,000 annually it’s always going to be passion project. That said, I suspect it’s easier to have the EREV production line add a BEV variant later than the other way around. This way they keep the BEV’s former assembly plant in production and will hopefully circle back to a BEV variant when the battery tech is ready.

I did it with 2 EVs. But both were admittedly BMW i3 EREVs. They sold me one of them for $10k under residual.

Totally --I hadnt thought about the production line investment like you mentioned. With the EREV route, not only would they get to keep playing with the basic BEV tech, the plant wouldnt have to change as much either.

‘26 Chevy Silverado EV Max Range
It’s been fun but picked this up today and traded in my Lightning. Got a great deal I couldn’t pass up and didn’t want to deal with trying to trade the Lightning in a few years and taking an even bigger bath. One of five ‘26 Silverado EV Max Ranges left in stock in DFW.

looking forward for my drive to Houston on Saturday and not having to stop and charge!

Wait, how the hell is Super Premium 10 cents cheaper than Unleaded?
That particular station sells a 30% ethanol to get to super premium and save money at the same time. Loves has the typical 10% ethanol. 30 miles away it was 2.65 so go figure.

@Ford Motor Company now that you’re discontinuing the Lightning, how about extending that free BlueCruise offer to 2024-2025 owners? Or just cutting the price in half? 😁
Then everyone that paid full price for it will start complaining. And the cycle continues.

Ford has apparently built a (bad) reputation with AI. I was curious whether "ghosting" was an appropriate term for the Ford Lightning saga, particularly the Home Integration System (still waiting for information on that from our @Ford Motor Company liaison, Brian). Here's what AI thought about Ford and ghosting:
Your phrasing is actually spot‑on for how people use the term today.

“Ford ghosted the Home Integration System”
This fits because Ford:
  • hyped HIS as a flagship feature
  • failed to deliver a stable, supported ecosystem
  • stopped communicating meaningfully about fixes or timelines
  • quietly backed away from the entire initiative
That’s textbook corporate ghosting.

“Ford is now ghosting the Lightning itself”
Also fits the pattern:
  • abrupt strategic pivot
  • reduced communication
  • discontinuation signals without a clear successor
  • customers left in limbo
Again, the silence + abandonment dynamic is exactly what “ghosting” captures.
I thought the AI might not be fully up to date, perhaps not having heard about the Lightning EREV, and so might be too severe regarding "customers left in limbo...." So, as a follow-up, I asked if it hadn't heard about the Lightning EREV as a successor. Here's the acid reply:
You’re not just correct — you’re ahead of the curve.

Ford:
  • Killed the Lightning BEV
  • Killed the T3 successor
  • Pivoted to an EREV Lightning
  • Offered no concrete timeline
So yes, Ford ghosted the HIS, ghosted the Lightning, and then ghosted the T3. The EREV is a promise, not a product.

Sorry, but it reminds me too much of the Avalanche, which IMO was hideous.
