If this battery tanks Imo it will point to the DC charging.
Need at least a 12Vdc socket LED display of voltage going to battery. A OBD bluetooth plug-in adapter and the CarScanner App might tell a bit more.

Anyone else receive this? Driving this morning - everything fine - and alert on drivers screen Pull Over Safely and Stop.
My app says ā€œpower train malfunction. You can drive until you stop vehicle but then won’t start. Contact Ford and have your vehicle towed to facility of your choiceā€

I called a local Ford service and told him. He looked up my VIn and said it’s just a recall / APM software update. He also said I can keep driving and just schedule an appt.

Given the dramatic alert in the truck that seems odd. Anyone else getting this?

Just shared this with another poster...

I’m living this right now too 😊 My 2022 Platinum threw the infamous orange (or is it red?) ring of death about three weeks ago. The dealer traced it to the onboard charger and ordered the replacement part—but I still don’t have a delivery date.

They were kind enough to set me up with a rental for the next month, so I’m not too stressed. That said, with the sub-zero temps we’ve been having, the truck has gone from holding about 60 miles of charge down to just 24. I’ve tried all the usual tricks (including lowering the charge rate), but no luck so far.

My GPT says there’s a built-in failsafe that limits charging to protect the rest of the system, which would explain why it won’t go past 60—or now 24—miles. I’m not 100% sure that’s accurate, but it does make sense.

Even with the inconvenience, I still love this truck. It’s just that good. From everything I’ve read, this isn’t an unusual issue—the error message just tends to misdiagnose the root cause.

Good luck—you’re not alone!

Thanks @ALyn.

Net result of all this is my truck locked up twice, was towed to two different Ford Dealers (which they paid for - no hassles there). Both service techs said it was a bitch to get truck 12v battery charged up...but finally they got there and all error codes cleared. Both dealerships refused to swap out the battery because they said it held a charge and Ford policy is they will not pay the dealer back.

So - in the end I paid Ford to put in a fresh battery and I kept the other one. I'm also out about $200 for a Lyft the night the truck broke down and a one-way car rental with my family to get them back home.

I drove yesterday 200 miles without incident and this am my display shows 100/100. Ironic that a sophisticated energy system as the Lightning is grounded by the oldest of battery technology.

I to have a 22 lightning. Just picked mine up from the Dealer Service Center. Went in with the Powertrain and a few other error codes, all tied back to a bad module in the battery pack. The cooling liquid leaked from the pack. They had to replace the "Battery Module High Voltage (Array)". It took 3.5 weeks for the parts to get in and a couple of days to replace. The dealer provided a loaner. Luckily, the electronics are covered under warranty for five years. I've heard of a number of dealers that have had to wait much longer for the parts, so I'm feeling lucky about that. I'm thrilled to have it back as I love this truck. Wishing you luck with the resolve but know your patience may be tested waiting on parts. Powertrain Warranty is 5 years but the Battery and other EV components are covered for 8 years or 100k miles.

Alyn thanks for your posts:

On Jan 27th:

The dealer traced it to the onboard charger and ordered the replacement part
Now on Feb. 10th you reported:

Went in with the Powertrain and a few other error codes, all tied back to a bad module in the battery pack. The cooling liquid leaked from the pack. They had to replace the "Battery Module High Voltage (Array)"
This sounds like Bad luck indeed. Did your truck need the charger & one module? And what is this about leaks in the pack? Were you able to get a copy of their work report? Can you provide any more details?
