We actually have 2 Lightnings as well.
Nice! I see from your sig we have similar lineups overall, although I lack the batteries due to 1:1 net metering and a 22kW Generac

The pop-out in my garage was my solution to the short garage. I described it in another post but it has disappeared from this string!

This is just after we had her front wrapped and a couple other things done if you can spot them.

The 2018 M3 was a fabulous car but at 7+ years and 96k miles, Tesla made me a great off to include FSD transfer so...

I had the same problem with my truck being too long and tall for my garage. I first popped out the rear wall 12", leaving the 6" stem wall in place and walling in the pop-out to just underneath the 16" eave- like a bay window. I supported my rafters with 2x4 kickers and put a 4x10 header across the 12 feet of the bearing wall. This gave me my depth. My door header was 3 inches too low with the 4x14 door header. I had a 3/8" webbing 4"x4"x16' beefy I-Beam that I used to replace the door header- giving me another 10" in height. It was supported by two 2x6 cripple studs on each side and, after welding the end tabs and drilling holes in the top web, I lagged it into the 2x6 king studs at the ends and top straps. I also inserted 2x4's screwed into the webs so I could put my siding back on. Cost was just a 2"x10"x12' beam and a few 2x4's as I reused the other materials, already owned the I-Beam, did everything myself with the exception of having a few friends help with the door beams. It looks beautiful and works beautifully.

Additionally, I used an old 2x6x10 from the old wall window header as a tire-stop bolted to the floor so I will never back into the rear wall and damage it or my truck which I back in to leave my charging port in the middle of the garage for cable access to the L-2 charger on my rear wall.

Hope this is of some use.
Nice job. My problem is the width.
I have though about it, even have an architect in the family who would do the design drawing for getting permits.

And I have worked summer jobs in construction and even built a few things from scratch (12 x 12 shed in back yard) by myself.

I have a couple things that have prevented me from proceeding.

Money - lol, being mostly retired and having adult children who need bailing out now and then, inhibits spending to some degree, and expanding the garage is a hard sell to my wife under the circumstances - I think she has other ideas about how to upgrade the house, ha!

If I had the money laying around, another thing is I don't have much room on the side of my current garage to the property line and access to the back yard is along that side as well.

I'd have to extend the slab and the roof and the driveway to that side.

The roof above the current garage is supported by posts along that side.

I really would only need a few feet on the side, but those few feet mean a whole lot of work and money.

So if I win the lottery....

I see. Much more complex than mine. I am 76 yrs old and retired also but still build. Hope you can get your truck inside as it really prolongs the condition of the truck.
Blessings...

I finish my 74th year in next month.
I have had a lot of different occupations over the years, the first was working at a car wash wiping down cars as a teen (what fun in the winter!), and the latest being an electrical engineer patent attorney. In between I drove delivery trucks (including an old Intn'l double-clutch monster rig) while working nights as a musician (drummer), did technical writing for systems software, and worked as a patent examiner for the US Gov't. among other things, lol.

If you have the room for a car port - I find it does a great job with less expense than a full garage.
I have a lot of shop space but need it to run my business, so built a two bay car port on steel posts for my truck and her SUV. Keeps off the snow/rain/sun makes the paint and trim last better.

I did three post across the front (12 feet between each post, 28 feet wide with overhang) and three more at the back with steel beams welded to the tops, then wood trusses span front to back 26 feet - this leaves NO posts along the sides and makes it nice to open doors without a darn post in the way.

I made the mistake of going 12' wide, should have gone 14' for these very reasons. 12'x22'. Don't get me wrong, I can open all 4 doors just not all the way at the same time. I can slide in one side or the other and have 2 doors on one side fully open. If you notice bottom right of pic the greenery, the other 2' that would have made a world of difference.

Yes I have been thinking about something like that, but the county zoning folks get a bit picky about things in the front of the house visible from the street around here though.

If it is free standing (not attached to the house) the regs are less stringent about it.

Originally my 'garage' was a carport, then we enclosed it and started using it for storage.

When we turned it into a garage all we needed was the smallest sized garage door for the 2012 Nissan Leaf, which lives in there to this day.

I did not envision an F-150 in my future until an electric one came along.

If I put up what the county considers a "temporary" or "movable" car tent or 'port' I could avoid a lot of red tape, I had a car tent for my old '67 Peugeot 403 for years and the county let me be.

My 2001 Ranger XL did pretty well outdoors for almost 25 years, always used clear coat on the finish when washing, passed it on to a Grandson when I got the 2023 Lightning Pro in 2004. We rarely get snow here in Northern Virginia (2010 was an exception - piled up on my Ranger) acid rain is more the problem for finishes here.
