Hey all - I've seen some posts about people who had their Ford Connect app not work and mine hasn't worked for over 6 months. I can't connect to my car through the app. For months it was stuck showing the same battery % and location I was at the last time it worked. Then that even got erased.

I did a little digging and tried some fixes, like pulling Fuse 32 and putting it back in. Then I disconnected the modem for a day and plugged it back and and that did nothing.

Does it sound like my Modem is just broken and needs to be replaced? I think I saw that part is like $800??? Can I replace it myself? Ford said I need to bring it in to have it looked at but my car is out of the 3 year warranty... I guess it's my fault... it started before the warranty was up I just never got around to getting it in.

Any other ideas???

It's a 2022 Lariat ER with 31k miles on it.

Besides this issue, everything else has been pretty great (although I did have one of the 8 battery cells replaced... thankfully under warranty... and Ford had my car for 33 days doing that).

If the modem is truly not working, it will not be reporting any codes to the cloud I can see with the VIN, but message me the VIN and I can check to see if I see anything obvious. If it is not reporting codes to the cloud, you would need FORScan or a code scanner to post any codes it is reporting so we can see what's going on.

Yes, you can swap the TCU out yourself, but you will need FDRS to program it.

Got your message. Code history is stored on the cloud for 60 days at a time. On 11/21, the truck reported these codes below and has not reported anything since. The BCM and CMR codes can be ignored as those are stored codes. However, that TCU code cites a component failure and the GWM codes citing ethernet failures between the GWM and the TCU are indicative that the TCU is offline.

The cheapest way to remedy this would be to go on ebay and find a used TCU with the same part number as yours, swap it into your truck and program it with FDRS. Assuming you already have a windows based laptop, you can buy access to FDRS for $120 for two days and you can borrow one of my Mongoose cables to program it. Details are here:

Thanks! I'm not positive, but that 11/21 date might have been when I unplugged the modem for a day and then plugged it back in. Could that be what those codes are for? Or is the fact nothing has been sent since indicative of it still being off line? This is one of those situations were maybe a year and a half ago it started working sporadically... like ford connect wouldn't update for a day and then it would update. Then it got worse until it finally froze and was stuck on the same day and same charging % for a couple months before it eventually says nothing now.

I checked out that linked thread you sent and this is great. Does it seem like the TCU is what's bad so I need to replace it and then your cable will upload the newest software to it? I'm not super up to speed on how this all works. I thought I saw the TCU's were like $800 but that may be just from the dealer.

The ethernet codes are more likely to be the issue.

Its the Blue connector at the TCU. Make sure its connected. I dont have the vin but it could be the gateway is bad.

Do you remember if you had any OTA prior to this issue?

TCU on ebay is 100$ but it may be the gateway. We would have to narrow it down. Seeing those ethernet codes are more a concern

@jcarterpdx I can share the VIN with Jesse if you give me the green light. He knows this stuff way better than I do.

I'd start by verifying the connections to the modem since you unplugged it about the same time. Inspect and reseat all of the connections first and at the TCU as @Jesse-Infotainment mentioned. If no joy, then inspect the wiring to the unit to make sure you don't have any wire shorting or chafing.

Check it out this morning. Unplugged the ethernet cable in the plug next to it and they looked fine and plugged them back in. No change.

Do you have FORScan or any kind of code scanner to see what codes it is reporting now? We are going off of codes it reported 2 months ago. Ideally, FORScan would be best in case Jesse has some troubleshooting tips he can suggest to pin-point whether the TCU or the GWM is the culprit here.

It's like windows 95 - sometimes you have to jiggle the handle, blow away the operating system and start from a factory reset. It helped my truck immensely when I was having phone as key issues.

What should I factory reset? All the settings?

I have a regular code scanner from my old gmc truck. Would that work?

Green light. Thank you!
