Have you checked with your electric company to see if they offer special rates for EV charging? In Minnesota, Excel Energy has a program that offers very cheap off peak charging rates, but they require you to install the ChargePoint charger and connect it to WiFi. Something to consider as you decide which charger to purchase. Our off peak charging rate through the Excel EV program is 3.8 cents per kWh!!

Hello! New to EV and didn’t research too well! Ha. I have a 2025 Lariat. Have the mobile charger. Should I keep it and use it with 240v or is there another affordable charger you guys recommend? Not looking for fancy, just something that works well.

I have an Emporia, and am happy with it. The install is very simple, with a 60A breaker required, and at least 6 g copper. The Emporia shape makes it easy to just loop the charge cord over it a couple times for storage. It's a good idea to use a torque wrench on the lugs, to be sure they are correctly tightened. Keep the mobile cord in the truck, for occasional use.

After a couple of years using a portable charger, I bought the Emporia Classic. That has worked great from day one. I had a charging issue and their customer service was outstanding. They helped pin point the problem that was with the truck not the charger. My Ford dealer said the Emporia App had better diagnostic tools than they did.

TPU (Tacoma, WA) gave me $600 -- $300 rebate on the charger, $300 rebate on the install. All as bill credits \o/.

I have a ChargePoint and Tesla EVSE setup in my garage. The Tesla Universal setup is very nice because it supports both J1772 and NACS. I also own a Tesla. The equipment is very nice and offers a little more flexibility.

I have had my truck for a couple of weeks now. I installed an EVIQO at home and an Emporia at the lake. Both are 48 amp and both work great. Granted, I am only about 1700 miles in, so I can't speak to longevity.

I have a similar setup with my EVIQO at home and Emporia Pro at another house. Both work very well without any issues.

The EVIQO needs the latest firmware update for it to run on Charge on Plug In with schedules on the app. After the update, it’s perfect. The app however leaves something to be desired. The hardware is absolutely solid. I’ve ran over the cord multiple times and drag it on concrete to charge outside. No wear or issues.

The Emporia Pro is a workhorse. Love the app and how it accounts for service fees from your electric provider in your area.

Our garage is separately metered w/100 amp panel. I set my CP for 40 amps, delivering about 9KW which in 7 hours 10PM-5AM, is more than enough for my (now former) commute of ~93 miles a day. I’ll need to upgrade that panel to 200 amps as it was adequate 40 years ago… not so much today. Off “peak” hours charging is important as the lights, hot water tank, miscellaneous tools (240V table saw, etc)… would press that service. I’d recommended to my step-daughter that if she and S.O. were seriuos about BEVs, drop in a 300 amp service now as her house is all electric. Alas, they penny pinched and stuck with 200 amps & … gas & diesel vehicles… oops. We pay .064/KWh so BEVs really make $$$ savings. Gas & diesel right at $6 and $7 currently .

I’ve got a Vevor 14-50 32 amp J1772 evse, $120, that is going strong after four years of daily use. The 14-50 has shown no issues, I inspect it occasionally.

I purchased a https://www.batterytender.com/collections/ev-chargers 40AMP charger at a wholesale/closeout place for $250.00.

It has a RFID card that will only let you charge if you scan an approved card. Works great.

Deltran was easy to work with as the initial unit did not work with RFID, they shipped me a replacement with no questions asked (Except for the purchase receipt), and easy install.

Check with your local utilities. They may have off peak programs. Mine does (PSE&G in NJ) but it only works with certain chargers that they can access to see how much energy you used and what times you charged. It’s basically Tesla chargers and chargepoint and I think one or two other ones.

I have 2 emporia hard wire for 4 years zeros issues. Won’t ever buy any other.
