Sorry about the late response, I've been away on holiday overseas for a while. Actually, yes...that's what I was advised to do. So I created an email alias to my same main email account and then registered that email address as my login on the Motorcraft service site...and now that's what I use...
The Ford Cyber Security guy I talked to said to contact Ford Customer Service because they had sent the email, and it was erroneous, since according to the Cyber team my account had NOT actually been locked out.
As a followup...after not looking up anything for the last two days, (because I was busy elsewhere) I checked my own two VINs this morning, as well as one of our forum members, who also resides here in the US.
Shortly after doing that, I got another email saying my account was again suspended...
So powertrain on a Lightning includes; PCM, ABS, BECM, GFM2, SOBDM, SOBDMB, and SOBDMC.
Sometimes they send out updates for one or two of these, and sometimes it's a full set.
I thought I should let folks know that two days ago my Ford account that I use to login to FDRS was suspended.
Today I got an explanation of why:
"Running VINS outside of your country will cause your account to be suspended. Going forward, you should not do this. We have re-enabled your...
Well okay...you get a wrench light for a lot of things. It would all depend on what the actual DTCs are once the system is scanned that determine the repair path. In the TSB I posted, it specifically says a wrench light with a very specific DTC.
So I did go through the IPMA PMI routine using the TOPDON RLink this morning and FDRS is smarter than I am, apparently.
It all went fine, but because my IPMA was already at the latest software and configuration it didn't do any block erasing and replacing.....simply gave my truck a nice pat on...
2022-2025 F-150 Lightning (built on or before 19 Feb 25)
NA markets only.
Issue: Some of the vehicles listed in the model statement above may exhibit an illuminated powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator with DTC P2797 stored in the SOBDMB and/or the SOBDMC. This may be due to the software...
I spent about 15 minutes getting it registered and updated and then logged into FDRS and poked around a bit, but didn't actually do any programming (a storm was coming at the time). But I have no reason to suspect (yet) that it won't do the job.
I can echo @Adventureboy 's comments...
If you want to waste an afternoon...troll through Ebay listings looking for VCM 3s that show a Bosch "Made in Germany" sticker on the backside of the unit instead of "Made in China"....so many clones...so very many...many clones.
Well I promise to followup, and may even go so far as to attempt a PMI on my IPMA, just to see what happens.
So consider my purchasing this adpater as a 'conditional' endorsement until then ?
I just bought the TOPDON J2534 on Amazon's Big Spring Sale for $240 delivered (Prime). I like the fact that I'd be able to use it on my Mini as well as all my Fords...and anything else I run across...apparently all you do is download the correct driver for whatever the brand is you're working...
The PSCM takes 5 minutes normally. But because the script is going to also group in the IPMA if it hasn't been done yet, then that might be the long pole in the tent (2.5hrs with a Mongoose).
