Has anyone else with a 2025 Lightning noticed an uneven or excessive gap in front of the rear tire, toward the cab — basically at the front edge of the rear wheel well / lower bedside seam?

I just had mine looked at and was told the gap is “design intent,” but on my truck it does not look symmetrical side to side and seems larger than it should be.

If anyone has a 2025 Flash or similar 2025 Lightning, I’d really appreciate:

  • photos of both sides of that area
  • whether the gap looks even side to side
  • whether Ford told you it was normal
  • whether anyone actually got it repaired or adjusted

I’m trying to figure out whether this is truly normal across these trucks or if Ford is brushing off another issue as being “within spec.”

And why is there an angle bracket with a hole in it on the drivers side but not on the passenger side?

Are the two pieces that have the gap between them on the drivers side welded together on the passenger side? If so, maybe someone/some-robot missed a weld?

I have a 2023 Pro but I will go look anyway....

OK, I have the same 'extra' bracket with a hole, but I have no gap between any metal pieces on either side.

Might be a place where corrosion could occur when road salt or other stuff gets up in there.
If it is not a weld location, you could maybe try to close the gap by squeezing the pieces together, or by sealing it with some sort of caulk.

If it is a welded area, have to see a body shop about fixing it if it is a concern. Looks like a Ford manufacturing glitch to me.

Looks like that gap goes all the way up into the bed? Might also seal it up from above so nothing get down there, like water dripping down in there?

My guess is both the gap allows reduced mfg costs and it helps prevent water pooling in the bed grooves behind the wheel wells. There’s also similar gaps at the front wall of the bed. Since the bed is aluminum, it’s not going to rust in the open joints. Caulk or a spray in bed liner would seal the gaps if you’re trying to make things water tight. (The lift gate is still going to leak) A full bed liner like a Bedrug also does the job.

Thank you
I'll have a look at mine when I get it back. It's at the dealer for a recall and a defective shifter.

I took it to the dealer and it took Ford about a week to come back with this response to the Advisor:
“Advisor, The close-up images confirm that normal gaps are present within the panels of the floor of the bed. The gaps are considered a design intent, and no repair attempts should be made. We recommend comparing this concern to multiple similar vehicles as they should be similar.”

There is obvious separation as I had my bed sprayed after purchasing the vehicle, and there is now a gap in the bed liner.
It is baffling how much @Ford Motor Company doesn't stand behind their product! This along with the micro crack in my tail light that ford also has decided is not a warrantable repair truly shows how the company is not concerned with its consumers satisfaction.

Aluminum can corrode/oxidize I and should not be called "rust" which refers to what iron does.

And aluminum if subjected to harsh environments (like water mixed with road salt) can develop pitting.

In that location it is probably not a big deal though since it does not look like an area where it is going to affect the structural integrity of the bed if pitting does develop.

But...my truck bed DOES NOT have that gap between the pieces, so I doubt that it was an 'intentional' gap...unless mine was unintentionally made to fit together perfectly?

Yes, my 2025 Flash has the gaps.

Not really sure of the purpose of them though, alternate bed drainage in a downpour?

Or just thrown together in a "flash?"

Why does one side have a gap and the other doesn't? :)

Theory: the side with the gap on your Flashes also has that L-bracket with the hole in it, and that bracket seems to be attached with 2 rivets or maybe screws. So maybe the rivets/screws were supposed to go through BOTH pieces of metal but didn't seat into/go through the second piece during assembly? They seem to be near the start of the gap.

My Pro has the same bracket on one side but no gap...
I'll have to try to take a pic and also see if I can tell if the screws/rivets go through both pieces of metal tomorrow.

Both of my gaps are even but bigger.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It does make one wonder about the assembly and quality control...but with all the posts about wiring and connector issues, leaking tail lights and moon roofs, crap coming in the rear vent behind the rear seats, etc., not a surprise that there is not a snug fit between bed parts!
