Very interesting article over at 9to5mac.com indicates we'll [hopefully] get video playback from apps on CarPlay when parked! This would be fantastic! I'm hoping Ford enables this feature and the major video apps are updated to support it. Charging and grabbing a bite to eat would be much improved!

Ah... seems like it would kill the need for products like Magic Box.
Likely not if someone doesn't find an easy way to defeat the "vehicle must be in park" issue.

Unpopular opinions...
  1. Insurance companies should put in their policies severability clauses that such devices in vehicles voids coverage.
  2. States need to pass legislation that place any driver at fault in an accident driving with such a device.
Here is a list of names for such legislation. Which one do you like best?
  • D.U.M.B. Act - Drivers Using Monitors are to Blame Act
  • I.D.I.O.T. Act - Idiotic Drivers Insisting on Onboard Televisions
  • C.A.R.E.L.E.S.S. Act - Completely Asinine Reckless Entertainment Linked to Endangering Safe Streets Act
  • W.T.H. Act - Why Televisions in Highways? Act
  • S.T.U.P.I.D. Act - Screens That Undermine Proper Intelligent Driving Act
  • R.E.C.K.L.E.S.S. Act - Ridiculous Entertainment Choices Killing Lives, Endangering Sensible Streets Act
  • N.O.B.R.A.I.N. Act - No Onboard Broadcasting Requires Accountability in Negligence Act
  • D.E.S.T.R.O.Y. Act - Drivers Engaging Screens Threaten Road Operations and Your life Act
  • C.O.L.L.I.D.E. Act - Careless On-the-road Lack of Liability for Idiotic Display Entertainment Act

From all reports so far the vehicle will have to be in park and the iPhone will automatically disable all video should it "detect motion". These are both good precautions.

Ignorant people will always find a way around safety (and sanity). The point is adding value and entertainment while charging utilizing technology we already have. Within the above constraints it will be a great addition.

I agree.

For clarity, my earlier comment was referencing those that utilize products that circumvent and create unsafe conditions.
