I have a 3.5EB with max tow package, max tow of 14,000lbs supposedly. I'm looking to tow my 10,000 pound boat but I see the limit without a weight distributing hitch is 5,000. I've never seen anyone tow a boat with a weight distributing hitch. And I think it would be a hazard when used on the steep inclines of boat ramps. Does anyone here use a weight distributing hitch to tow a big boat?

Those w/d are never seen on boat trailers.

But.... You are really maxing out the little half ton with a 10,000 lb boat, plus fuel, plus gear, plus people. You can probably get away with it if you're staying in Florida but go to the launch ramps and check out the trucks pulling bigger boats.....they will be 3/4 and 1 tons.

In a perfect world the truck will pull 14,000 lbs. But, if you want your 4900 lb truck to turn and your 10,000 lb boat wants to go straight, I am thinking your going straight. The boat has a 5100 lb weight advantage. If I was pulling 10,000 lbs I would want at least a 1 ton.
Also, in Manitoba, because of your over 10,000 lbs GVW you are required to have a class 3 drivers license. This goes for any truck/car trailer combo.
