It passed the exhaust system inspection with flying colors..... The fact that North Carolina charges me 140+ dollars extra to make up for "fuel tax" for roads but can't adjust the inspection form when they scan my paperwork is insane to me. When I did have an ICE vehicle I always filled up with gas in South Carolina because it was a 5 minute drive to save about 40 cents a gallon.

Why did you think it wasn't going to pass? I'm sure a Tesla or two has rolled through there in the last 8 years.;)

Bureaucracy and box checkers.

Got to check a box to shows the exhaust system passed, but there's no exhaust, can't check the box, failed inspection.

I have extraordinarily little confidence in government processes.

Yah, I was bragging to the Xwitter folks, my inspection will be a whole $7 here in Texas (in May).... but then learned, we still have to pay $200 annually to drive an EV. RIDICULOUS & needs to change. They will always find ways to get their money.

Well, your not paying for road repairs through the "Gas Tax", and Registration fee's do little for road repairs.( My understanding . . .)

That's the argument, and it's a decent one until you realize that $200 in state gas tax is a LOT of gas. Texas' state tax is $0.20/gallon, so that $200 is 1000 gallons. We don't get nailed as badly here in Michigan ($140/year with $0.30 state gas taxes), but we still pay more in EV tax than a typical ICE driver pays in gas tax.
