for $100, I don't see the compelling reason to get the $100 back for a deal that's two or three years away.
maybe it becomes possible to just drive one off the lot, but maybe the delays continue and in two years time, who knows what they want, but the option to buy a Lightning with a reservation made back in 2021 is nice card to have up the sleeve.

Because i realized that i do not want a Lightning in the near future and have no use for the reservation one way or another if and when my turn comes. I’ve settled on a 2022 Powerboost which i plan to keep for at least 5 years. And hopefully by that time the backlog will be filled and EV truck choices will be a lot clearer.

And also, another reason, now that i have more details, I know for sure that I don’t want to pay 90K+ for a Lighting Platinum model: not next year, not in 5 years.

So will evaluate my options then. Example: maybe Tesla will be THE truck to buy, nobody really knows now with exactly ZERO EV trucks on the road.

overpaid computer nerd.
Why not send that email? Because Ford hasn’t announced how many trucks they are building in 2022.
I thought Ford had announced they’ll be building 15000 Lightnings in 2022.

How does that change my question to Ford? Why wouldn't they reach out to the first 15,000 now to get a jump on the supply chain?

I would guess that for the big items it is already too late and for the smaller ones they can wait until orders are in to get exact details.

The biggest thing to going to be the battery sizing what mix of standard vs extended. Next will be the other drivetrain components although those will be pretty much the same between all the lightning and may even share with mme. They already order a million interiors so the trim allocation is not the problem other then the big tablet thing but I'm sure they can easily get their hands on as many of those as they need. It's really the batteries that's the problem.

Oh ya. The stupid microchip shortages too. Who knows how long that will be a problem.

This assumes that Ford is going to go down the retail list of the first 15,000 timestamps. While that may be the case to convert your reservation to an order it will not be the case for vehicle production/delivery.

The Bronco and Mach-E roll out was done through # of vehicles to dealers each month and the dealers determine the fulfillment order, which ties back into the pick your dealer threads. Not sure how Ford works the dealer monthly production numbers, and if Ford is going to spread the deliveries nation/continent wide or focus on geographic regions or order configuration trim levels.

Note how Mach-E GT was not even an option until later and other EV manufacturers focus on mass producing one trim level before others. Timestamp might or might not help priority within your configuration group Pro, XLT, Lariat, Platinum etc. Time will tell.

That is their goal to produce 15000 trucks. The way things are going they probably know the number will be much less. The factory is still under construction. They dont have enough parts to build trucks.

The good news is that the percentage of parts that are unique to the lightning is relatively low and other than the battery, shouldn't be too difficult to get increased production.
The battery is going to be the bottleneck here.

25 posts and again we drift away from my OP. I specifically asked Ford to take a reading of trim level and battery choice ONLY. Why the members here can't stay focused is astonishing.

I'm out.

To answer this question...ford already sent out a survey a long time ago. I personally didn't get one but obviously somebody did
https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/thr...urvey-email-before-and-after-tax-credit.4242/
I agree that surveys of potential buyers would be helpful but I would guess that half or more of the reservations are speculative right now and their choices would be mostly fantasy. No real value to Ford.

But thanks for the suggestion to Ford to survey early reservees. I believe they get it.

I am still mystified by the 'survey" allegedly sent out by "Ford" (?) in the middle of June. (See Above) I am an early reserved and never received one. I don't want to question anybody's honesty but..... I wish the original poster would post proof of who sent it from Ford. It looks and reads like a 'cut and paste'.

On the 15,000 2022 builds....There were few (Reuters) unnamed sources for that number and subsequent numbers but they have been plastered all over as totally factual. But they did have some value in thinning the number of wanna-bees in the list who will not wait. I think the number (15,000) will be at least double but no one will know for sure until Ford sends out a real release.

What ever happened to just having faith in something?

I watch Ford news sources daily and I see a recent increase in releases that I think are building to an Oct. 1 order window.

Personally, I can do without my truck for another year so I am hoping for a 2022 or early 2023 next Fall. After that I will wait for Gen 2.

I had been thinking around Spring 2023 for mine (which is fine). Thinking it might slide out to 2024 or 2025 is a bit distressing though. My current truck is only 5 years old with 60k miles so it should easily last that long, but the waiting will be horrible. My wife could get her Mach-e and be ready to trade it in before I see my Lightning!

The real question is if that 15,000 is total units or public customer units. If it is total units, all the fleet customers have to come out of that, too.
