With the coming storm, I’ve decided that leaving my Volt at the terminal , and bring Storm home. Going to try to get my level 1 charger working (it threw a fault last time I tried it.) so that the battery will have a chance at staying warm the next few days. I don’t have a garage, and my level 2 charger won’t be installed for awhile. (DcFc is nice and all, but I am really looking forward to charging at home).
On a lighter note I just turned 10,009 miles.. on Storm!

The Lightning does really well in snow and ice, if you can avoid the other drivers!

Did your have the Ford Mobil Power Cord with it?

It has 240V and 120V dongles.

Not sure if you will get much battery warming out of the 120v one.

If you have an adequate circuit (240V on a 40A breaker) you can use the FMPC on it (it draws 30A and so 40A circuit is code). Most dryers are probably not on 40A, but often electric ranges are - but of course the outlet may be hard to get to.

Running a cord would be an issue too probably - the FMPC could be inside if you had a long enough J1772 extension.

But what did you use to power your Volt?

If it is J1772 it will plug into the top of the CCS1 in the charge port just fine.

I can use my old GE Watt Station J1772 with my Lightning at 32A if needed, I got a FCSP on eBay new in the box for $600 when I got the Lightning.

Good luck!

I have a generic level 1 EVSE, from the volt. and a long enough cord to keep it plugged in,this is just to tide it over when the cold snap hits.
I got the truck used and no cable came with it. I have an Emporia Pro coming soon, and will be adding a dedicated 50a circuit so I can finally charge at home.
Nothing over 30a at the house, so it will have to ‘do’ or, I can go top it off as needed. Busy week at work , so it would be sitting at the terminal for several days. The Volt won’t mind.
I’m not worried about weather other than the cold zapping range from the SR battery.
All the best!

PS just when you think you’re the coolest kid at the charger, this guy shows up… note the plate

Yes the cold does reduce the range, I haven't quantified it exactly but in Jan 2025, for the month I averaged 1.56 mi/kWh (no highway driving).

In mild spring weather it is almost double that on average.

So I'd say expect a 40 to 50 percent drop in range. Heating the cabin is only a small part of that.

Once you get your L2 EVSE, you can precondition while plugged in which will save battery power - preconditioning with L1 seems not very effective from some reports, I never tried that.

Enjoy!
