It was wet and the truck definitely felt heavy.. I might have hit the limit with this load.. unfortunately no scale.

Even with the tarp it was a big miss with sand everywhere.. I prefer using a dumper next time to be honest! after a wash though it is back new :)

Anybody has tips on doing this with less miss?

Good to know. It’s almost dry enough here to go pick up topsoil and mulch

You need a bigger tarp and a tailgate unloaded.

Hold on, what color is your truck? And why wasn't it available on the Pro when I ordered?

I'm not the poster of the picture, but that looks like an ICE version, not a Lightning. Notice the "4x4" decal over the rear wheel hub.

OP's truck is Azure Gray -- same as mine. Awesome color.

As for the topsoil... Have it delivered. Seriously. Or as has been suggested, a bigger tarp and such. But really, sometimes just because you have a truck doesn't mean it's still better/ more convenient to do it other ways. So an appropriate dump trailer for hauling dirt or having it delivered is the way to go. The save time in cleanup and other things is well worth it.

Yes it is the azure gray.. love the color.. gives different shades based on lighting conditions.

For a half yard it costs $24 .. It is a pretty cheap option if I just want that much.

Dump trailer would be awesome but it is like $130/day rental and could take 3 yards. Would definitely go that route if I needed more..

I did delivery before and it was 250+cost of material.

I put a tarp in the bed just as you do, but then I put a 4 X 8 sheet of plywood on top of the tarp. Any thickness works. The plywood makes it WAY easier to shovel out the stone, loam, sand, bark mulch, etc. because it's a solid base for the shovel to work against. Then I put a wheelbarrow or garden cart under my tailgate and just pull/push the stuff out of the bed and into the wheelbarrow. Easy!

sw engineering manager,
Or put a plastic bedliner in your truck if you haul dirt, gravel, or yard waste. No tarp needed and plenty easy to shovel it all back out.
Of course the big hole in the liner for the power outlets kind of defeats part of the purpose - need to duck tape over the outlets to keep them clean.
