I reached out to my dealer this morning asking for the same thingâŚhopefully itâs no sweat off their back to afford us this shield to any unintended consequences of the IRA becoming law before we take delivery. Thanks for sharing! So I went to the dealer yesterday and they very willingly prepared a customer order form. On the bottom it includes "THIS ORDER NOT SUBJECT TO CANCELLATION - DEPOSIT NON-REFUNDABLE". There are a number of boiler plate T&C. It seems to be a standard dealer form that likely many other dealers have also.
It also seems to include some "junk" fees in addition to the $2500 Mark-up that I am going to have to discuss with them but that aside, to me it seems like it meets the requirements
If I have some time today, I will try to scan it with any personal and dealer information redacted. Stay Tuned...
Because you expect delivery no sooner than 2023?I reached out to my dealer this morning asking for the same thingâŚhopefully itâs no sweat off their back to afford us this shield to any unintended consequences of the IRA becoming law before we take delivery. Thanks for sharing!
That form (I know it is a boilerplate form that many dealers use) looks familiar and so do the charges- (the window etch fee (which is total BS) and the doc fees. Did you also consider the registration and title fee of $399? I think we may be buying from the same dealer, but in a different location. But I am not paying any ADM.So I went to the dealer yesterday and they very willingly prepared a customer order form. I scanned the form ( personal and dealer information redacted). Let me know your thoughts....
The garbage fees seem to be about $1000 - ($599 Doc Fee and $399 Window Etching) + $2500 MSRP Mark-up.
All that said, while I would prefer not to pay any of that, qualifying for the $7500 rebate + MY22 vs MY23 is a better deal for me even if I ultimately have to pay the fees.
If youâre taking delivery in a week or two, what is it exactly that has you worried?I'll have to see the final bill and get some tax guidance to determine what I'm going to do come tax season. My truck likely will arrive in a week or two, would be awful luck to miss $7,500 by a few days.
The bill is being voted on tomorrow, it will likely be signed into law in a number of days. If the terms become effective the date of signing, taking delivery one day after it is signed would still make me tied to whatever new terms are in the bill. It hasn't been executed yet, so what terms these may be is still somewhat of a mystery. If youâre taking delivery in a week or two, what is it exactly that has you worried?
In that delivery posture, I donât think you have any need for âbindingâ language in your contract
I think you might benefit from some more reading up on the bill and itâs terms as is applicable to people who take delivery anytime in 2022The bill is being voted on tomorrow, it will likely be signed into law in a number of days. It's why it would've been exponentially cleaner to make the new terms effective for the 2023 tax year, so people had time to review and understand the changes. If the bill is signed into law on Monday and you take delivery on Tuesday, it's not really reasonable for any person to comprehend a massive bill that's been around for a day.
this I think is the misunderstanding. Few of the billâs terms become effective the date of signing. If the terms become effective the date of signing,
The Transitional Rule (quoted on the first page by OP) is explicit that any EVs purchased after the bill is signed into law will fall under the new rules.this I think is the misunderstanding. Few of the billâs terms become effective the date of signing.
and, for people taking delivery in 2022, none of It becomes âeffectiveâ insofar as it seems pretty well settled they may elect to apply the current bill instead of the new bill
the challenging postures are not people taking delivery in 2022, butinstead those already with non-âbindingâ orders but who may not take delivery until 2023. If itâs a âbindingâ contract, then they may elect to apply instead the current bill (which they would elect to do only if the vehicle wasnât manufactured in North America, has an MSRP over $80K, the buyer is over the income cap for 2023, the battery component minerals arenât over 40% domestic-ish, etc.).
