If you could go back in time to to the day before you decided to purchase your Lightning (with your present knowledge of today), what would you do?

Would you do exactly what you did?
Would you hold out for a better price down the line (or buy used)?
Would you purchase a different vehicle (and if so, what)?

Every day my kid sees a Cybertruck and just ogles it like its the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition... and its getting to me.

Should have gotten Pro Power.
Should have gotten an X plan discount through the Mustang Club.
Would have saved about 10k based on the invoices people posted online.

Otherwise, I stick by my purchase as one of the most rock solid I’ve made in a while.

Yeah, I signed up for the Mustang club as well, but it would have been mid December before I could get the X-Plan discount code and I was afraid there wouldn't be what I wanted left by then. Plus the California Air Pollution $3K rebate ran dry around mid October and I would have missed out on that. I wanted the Pro Power/Max Tow package too, but there just wasn't any Lariats with that package on the West coast. I doubt I'll ever tow much anything, and the Pro Power would most likely have gone unused as well.

As an early adopter of a 22 XLT SR, I would have waited to get an XLT ER after Ford lowered the ridiculous $23k differential for an ER.
But if I could convince my wife to drive an EV like the ETron or Lyriq then I would have her driving the EV and I’d probably have a gas motor Super Duty. She drives about 4x the miles I drive.

Been a real treat! It’s my sixth F150 - 1st full ev & I am fully enjoying it more than I had expected, though I do miss the massage seats in my last F150.
I’m finding that stopping after several hours of driving to charge has had added benefits like meeting & chatting with fellow road warriors; seeing things that I would have blown past before, consuming more snacks etc….

If I had to do it again, I'd probably do it exactly the same.

I bought a new '23 pro ER with the Max Tow Package last year and love it. The out the door price with Tax, Title and License was 43K (l bought from a fleet dealership my company has a huge contract with so got it cheap).

I really enjoy the basic interior. I have 4 kids at home including an autistic one who has impaired motor control so being able to just wipe everything off and not worry over the interior is awesome.

I got a spray in bed liner, %15 ceramic tint all around and %25 on the windshield. With the Oxford white and the basic matte black trim, it looks sharp.
It's a price and trim I can live with. I don't freak out when I load it up with landscape stone, downed tree limbs, trash for the dump or helping a friend move. Exactly what I believe a truck is for.
The range, power and driveability are first rate. So, for $43,000, I couldn't be happier.

Ordered my '23 Lariat ER with bells and whistles from Ford website. It was delivered to my local dealer, then to me. Now has 30K plus miles on it. I absolutely love the truck and the way it drives, plus the amenities I ordered with it, especially heated and cooled seats, steering wheel, etc.. But after a long trip from Huntsville, TX to Boise, Idaho and back (no problems charging at Tesla and EA fast chargers), I calculated that my "fuel" cost was nearly twice what I would have paid in my old '16 F150 ICE truck (gasoline). So, if i planned to take frequent long distance trips, which I don't, I would prefer to be driving an ICE vehicle. Additionally, even with the ER, when I hook up my boat (60 hp Tracker), my estimated range gets cut in half. Luckily, there are good fishing lakes nearby, so I'm not that concerned about it, but if I wanted to pull my boat to various other east Texas lakes, I'd prefer to be in an ICE truck simply because it is so much easier to fuel-up at a lower cost. The only other gripe I have is that the stock tires will need to be replaced soon due to wear on the outer edges. Not too happy about that. All said, though, it is the best truck I've ever had (out of 7).

I put a few thousand miles on an 2023 ICE F150 XLT before getting my Lightning. That 2023 XLT was a thirsty truck.

You make an important point. The cost of DC fast charging is quite a bit higher than it used to be. In 2022, my EV charging costs were about 20% of gas, especially charging in states like Pennsylvania. With our most recent road trip and Virginia adventuring, we were at about 80% of the cost versus a gas powered F150. In some states, like Maine and Ohio, the DC charging cost is actually higher than gas -- that's even figuring in the cost of a Tesla membership.

I am not complaining about the networks raising their prices. Truth be told, Electrify America is order of magnitudes more reliable than it was 3 years ago. I'd take reliability and availability over price.

Naturally, an EV truck is almost free when charging at home and the maintenance costs are far less, but you can't count on much "savings" when road tripping when gasoline prices are relatively low, like they are now.

In actual answer to your question, I MAY have bought an ICE F150 instead. Not 100% sure, because for 95% of what I do the LIghtning is spectacular. But I live in Central Oregon, and if I want to get out into the _boonies_ - I have to think long and hard about efficiency & where I can recharge.

I had to have some minor service done with my Lightning shortly after I bought it, and got an ICE F150 as a loaner. I sure didn't love how it rode & handled, so that's why I say "may" instead of a stronger verb.

Everything in vehicles is a trade-off - so overall I'm happy I have it, even though sometimes it limits me on long road trips into the boonies...

The CT is already reaching the "everyone who wants one already has one" stage. I really don't think they are growing on anyone from what I'm seeing.

Would I do it again? yes. Despite my recent service issues this is still the best vehicle I’ve ever owned! But I am considering a change and would appreciate some feedback.

I have a 22 lariat ER with right at 60K miles. Until about a month ago it’s been dead reliable. I had a battery module failure. They replaced it works fine. Then two weeks later it leaves me stranded 150 miles from home it won’t charge on DC or level 2. It sat at a ford dealer for a week and a half and even though they kept saying they would look at it they never did. Went to my home dealer they put me in a truck and had mine trailered in. They think it’s the charge port.

Here’s my conundrum. Do I keep the truck. After these recent issues I’m concerned keeping it out of warranty which will happen for me in about a year and a half. I test drove a Silverado ev LT and was not impressed. Only thing it has going for it is the big battery.

Even though I’m about 15k negative equity I think I could trade into a 24 lariat for the same payment. (With 0% for 72 and all the incentives) the only downside is my truck has 9.6 pro power and all the lariats only have the 2.4 pro power. I do use this every day for my business.

Is there anything else I’m losing from switching from a 22 to a 24? From my reading on this forum there haven’t been as many module failures on 24s.

Only other vehicles I would be considering at in the near future would be a mid spec GMC Sierra EV or the Ram when it comes out. Only thing is it will likely be some time before there’s any good deals like the deals were seeing on the Lightning’s.

I’m still waiting on my truck to get fixed. There ordered a charge port but I don’t have an eta on when I’ll get it back. I’m thinking about just keeping it. If it has another battery issue before I hit 100k miles I’ll definitely get rid of it. Just not worth the chance being out of warranty. Or maybe there’s a cheap enough extended battery warranty??

ok yea def have to make the best decision out of warranty issues can be expensive. i just seen you was contemplating to do what i been in here asking about. bringing negative equity into a new lightning loan. i had a nice blue flash lined up just can justify stacking 10k of debt on this truck knowing the drop its gonna have.but i do want it lol. im just telling myself no
