I’m tempted to give it a try as I don’t have anything coming up that is important. But as I’m updating my iPad first to test, I’m curious if anyone has tried their phone and used CarPlay yet?

I probably will in a few days once I see reports if there’s any major issues. From initial reports I’ve seen there’s only lagginess on older phones. I only have my main phone and a work phone, so I don’t want to screw too much up.

I have it. iphone 16 pro max. FordPass 5.21.0

Been using for roughly 1.5 hours. No bugs yet. Carplay works fine thus far. The visual changes (mostly the liquidglass effects) carry over to Carplay.

Haven't used any of the other notable features yet, but overall it's been less buggy then the first betas of 17 and 18 this early in the game.

And those versions were less buggy than 15, 14, 13, etc..etc.. Apple does seem to be doing a better job with their beta’s. I’m downloading it now, so we will see

I am. And HYPED FOR THIS SIMPLE THING:

Can’t tell you how happy this makes me. Finally. Arrival time+time remaining +distance left+SOC on arrival.

I had to restart the phone after changing some widgets, but my alarm clock went off and that is most important. CarPlay seems to work fine this morning. So far so good in the less than 24 hours of testing.

CarPlay connected this morning with my VPN on. That was a nice surprise. Before it wouldn't work and I'd have to turn it off, disconnect and reconnect it.

Used it last night. It's good. Makes very good use of the large screen space.

Doesn't seem like they have improved the EV experience with Maps, which is disappointing.

Some low hanging fruit would be, to pull the current charge status from FordPass for accurate route planning.

Really enjoying the way CarPlay uses the screen. The smaller sized icons and text take full advantage of the screen now

Maps already remembers the SoC from the last time you connected to CarPlay, and you can use that to plan trips from your computer. Except for having an overly pessimistic range estimate, it works pretty good for me. It sounds like you want it to update while you're charging, or if someone else drives it?

I appreciate the response, but I think you are misunderstanding me. Remembering the state of charge from a point in time in the past is the issue, not the solution. It doesn't provide a pessimistic solution, it provides an entirely incorrect one.

If you only use a few percentage of your battery per day typically and you are looking on how to get to an in town destination, then granted none of this really matters. But I would not call that route planning. Its just navigation.

To me, route planning is taking into consideration all the logistics of a longer trip. If I park my truck with a 50% SOC the night before a trip and want to plan out a 400 mile road trip for the next day, I cannot with Apple Maps. At least not until after the truck has charged and I am sitting in it with Car Play running.

Anyway, my whole point is, the phone is now capable of seeing the truck's current SOC. Therefore it would be nice if Apple shared that information with their own mapping software.

What exactly do you expect it to do here? You need to have CarPlay connected to get a read on SoC. It takes that into account when route planning. If you parked the truck with 50% SoC the night before, maps will use that as the starting point for route planning. You want it to get a live status on SoC without connecting to CarPlay? That's not a realistic expectation at all.

You want to integrate Ford Pass into Maps, but that's a totally different data source than pulling it from the vehicle when using CarPlay. They're going to conflict, because FordPass isn't always up to date. If you prioritize FordPass data instead of it being read from the vehicle with Carplay, now you're dependent on having an active connectivity subscription with Ford.

Its a very simple solution. You prioritize carplay's realtime data when carpplay is available. If not, attempt to hit the FordPass API. If neither is available, give the stupid error about the "battery data is not accurate".
