Looking for a Simple Fix to Tailgate Bumper Issue

One of the rubber bumpers (where the tailgate meets the bed rail corner) on my tailgate got frozen to the tailgate and pulled out of its mounting hole. It looks like it's some kind of plastic rivet that will no longer hold it in place. I tried multiple times to just push the rivet back into the hole but it pops loose whenever the tailgate is opened.

Hoping to avoid the nightmare of Ford service for something so basic. Any ideas on how to fix this? Is this plastic rivet thing something I can pick up at an auto parts store or Amazon?

I had that happen on my previous F150. I just bought a replacement bumper. It wasn’t very expensive, iirc.

Thanks yeah I know it's covered but I have no desire to make a service appointment and waste multiple hours or days waiting for them to order a simple part and install it.

It just pushed in. That was on a 2017. I’m not sure if they’re exactly that same or not?

The push pin that secures the bumper stop is the issue. The push pin has to go in just so far as to push those fingers out when it goes into the hole. If you go too far with the pin the locking fingers are not pushed out to secure it in the hole. Mine was popped out after they installed a spray in bedliner. I reinstalled it but if it comes out again I will substitute the original pin with another type of push pin a one piece design like the type that holds your inner fender wheel wells in place with nice heavy barbs on it. You might have to a little trimimng to the head of it so it fits down into the rubber bumper stop.

You don't need to make a service appt for something so simple. Go online and find the part, order it. I just ordered an interior panel and they shipped from a local dealership for free. That special might be over though, you'll have to check.
