Ford asked me to test the Climate bug so I ran three tests:
---
June 12 - Test #1 at approx. 2:14pm:
PPOB ON no load - cord plugged into bed outlet but 0 power being used
Heated seat OFF
PPOB with truck off - not enabled
Power Down Timer - OFF
Pressed Climate button in App
PPOB did not shut OFF but...
the app displayed an orange triangle with exclamation point inside, the truck honked three times with a pause in between each honk, and no climate was turned on inside the truck.
Because PPOB did not shut off, I did not do a bug report.

When inside the truck I turned the heated seats ON to HIGH for next test and the PPOB stayed ON.
-----
June 12 - Test #2 at approx. 2:18pm:
PPOB ON no load - cord plugged into bed outlet but 0 power being used
Heated seat ON and on HIGH
PPOB with truck off - enabled
Power Down Timer - OFF
Turned truck OFF
Pressed Climate button in App
PPOB shut OFF
2:20pm turned truck ON and recorded bug report

----
June 12 - Test #3 at approx. 2:44pm:
PPOB ON no load - cord plugged into bed outlet but 0 power being used
Heated seat OFF
A/C set to 72F and ON
PPOB with truck off - enabled
Power Down Timer - OFF
Turned truck OFF
Pressed Climate button in App
PPOB shut OFF
2:48pm turned truck ON and recorded bug report

Yes, I think so too, and I think the question is, "is it adequate" to avoid a low battery shut down?

With a healthy battery it may be, with a weak battery, maybe not.
With a light load on the PPOB, may not be a problem, with a heavy load, maybe not.

I sent the Ford guys our latest theory and evidence about what is happening and they asked me to run another test with the truck ON without using a battery maintainer presumably to see what the effects to the 12v battery are.

I keep my 12v on a maintainer consistently (if I remember to plug it in) and have since mid-2024, and I have a relatively light load on the PPOB (usually well under 1kW), so I am not sure how useful my systems info will be.

I did mention that weak 12v battery issues are a pretty frequent issue on the forums.

If Ford could do something to fix that issue of 12v battery maintenance/health it would solve a lot of problems.
Planning on using the PPOB on our new Lightning Flash during power outages. Do you take any precautions before you connect your battery maintainer? I've used a maintainer on all of our cars including our previous EV and everything worked fine just connecting it to the +/- terminals. But before I connect it to our new Lightning I just wanted to confirm that there isn't anything else I'd need to do. TIA!

Yes, the negative should be connected to a ground point or down stream of the BMS sensor which is mounted to the negative battery terminal:

And of course take the usual precautions to avoid shorts or sparks, etc.

Got it. I actually used a chassis ground to avoid the shunt/smart sensor completely in our other EV, so this will be easier.

Thanks very much!

Back to the original....PPOB shuts down prior to the set reserve limit:

Yesterday I charged my Tesla with PPOB. It charged for 7 hours straight at 4kW....a fairly large load, with no shut down. Of course I did have the battery maintainer on the whole time. Next time I'll try it with no 12v battery maintainer. Can we guess what will be the result?
