Hello guys. Still planning on getting a Rhino liner sprayed in as soon as I get my tail gate security mods done. I have a few questions after talking to the guy in Wichita that does the spraying.

1. Should I drill a couple drain holes up front in the bed either before but probably after and about where and what size should they be?

2. There are two plastic plugs in the front lower corners of the bed that he said they usually spray over but everything else towards the rear involving the power options and storage box are removed and masked off. He said the front plugs don't fit back in after spraying. Thinking they were rubber like grommets that could be trimmed with a utility knife I removed one only to find they are plastic with two plastic tabs on top and two on the bottom and now the two on the top where I took it loose are stretched. Now I know why they spray over them since they probably break them off all the time. Now I plan to remove the other one, drill a hole in the middle, run a small bolt through, attached a short piece of 1/2" metal strap running across the back with a hole in it so I can stick them back in and tighten them up holding them in. I'm not sure what they are there for but I just as well preserve them unless there is a reason not to. Also below them might be a place to notch out for drain holes/slots.

3. The Rhino guy also said they remove the bed bolts before spraying and put them back in afterwards so you can remove the bed later. I can't think of a good reason to remove a bed unless it is wrecked and the rhino lining isn't any good anyway. To me, I figured if I really needed to remove the bed I could just cut out around the bolts. Any thoughts here?

4. Also talked to the guy about paying a little extra for a thicker coat just on the bottom. I figure the sides don't need it.

5. I know it isn't necessary but I'll probably put some type of rubber mat down just to help keep stuff from sliding around and finally decide on a bed cover after that.

Thanks.

A couple comments based on my observations -

The seams in the bed are so big that they won’t be sealed by a spray in liner. It will still drain.

The bed bolts must be replaced if they are removed.

Unless you’ve studied the body builder guide from Ford, do not drill anywhere in the bed. Similarly, don’t install any bolts or screws that are sharp such that the sharp parts point toward the battery and high voltage electronics.

Since I bought off the lot, my truck came with it already installed. I would have preferred it if they had removed the bed bolts, but as @Maquis notes, those bolts must be replaced if they’re removed.

Also, as noted, the seams in the bed are large enough you don’t need to do any additional drain work.

I would not pay extra for more on the floor of the bed. It’s already quite durable.

Similarly, the bed is very rough after the spray-on liner is installed. There’s no need for an additional anti-slip product.

I did mine at the place the dealership sent me to, they removed the screws and clips and replaced. Bed drains fine except for the pine needles. šŸ™„ Just noticed a couple days ago a clip is missing from the plastic tailgate protector. Guess I'll go pick some up when I remember.

The bolts are torque-to-yield.
