Yesterday afternoon my truck threw a service light for powertrain issues that I posted on (it since disappeared).

I want to start by saying the team was super nice and very interested in the Lightning (she had on on order and had a lot of questions). But I was surprised by a few things when I told them about the light (which again luckily is gone).

1) She said the primary EV tech is out for a few weeks so they need to figure out what to do.

2) They didn't have the ability to remotely check the logs to get more info and tell how urgent it is.

Thus, I guess the question I have is, what should my expectations be? This is a dealer in a major metro area that seems to do decent volume. I had assumed with Ford's EV push that all the techs would know EVs, not be assigned to a couple.

Also, can the dealer not remotely look at error logs? Something I had become accustomed to, but not a biggie if not.

Again, super friendly and of course this is a brand new vehicle, but just curious what others have seen with Ford EV service and if I should adjust expectations.

Interesting question. My smaller town dealer sent one service tech and salesman to Ford’s EV training to get certified as Ford EV dealership. What happens when that tech calls in sick or goes on vacation? I think us early adopters need to be pretty patient, while at the time being self-advocates (knowledge shared on this forum) until our dealers build their EV service capabilities and knowledge ?

That was pretty much my feeling on it after the call, but I was very surprised with the push Ford is making.

Hopefully it all works out!

Also shout-out to @Ford Senior Master for helping me out!

My dealer has multiple EV techs. One of the reasons I changed dealerships in 2018.
