Or am I missing something……

I got my SunRun quote today after the site survey 4-5 weeks ago.

Ford Charge Station Pro and Home Integration System for $7750.

I thought for sure it was going to be north of $10k. I’m pretty sure I don’t have room for an 80amp system.

5/30 Build date. 6/2 Blend. Lariat ER. Sacramento area.

What am I missing? Is this just a starting price and will be followed up with all the additional charges once they start working on it?

Thanks in advance!

Yep. Mine had that too. What was more disturbing was that they also included a supplemental agreement that said I would perform or have performed additional work outside their scope according to a statement of work they wouldn't provide until I signed the main agreement.

The rep said this work was moving a pile of firewood out of the way. Fine, they can put that on paper, right? Of course not.

Wasn't going to sign any nonsense like that. That was the final straw for SunRun for me. I understand why Sunrun - dealing with the utility and the local authorities for a huge battery installation when batteries are few and far between in residential installations is beyond most small electricians - but Ford should really consider working with local and regional solar providers instead, many of which are affiliated with established local electrical contractors.

Do you mean your work included installing a huge battery? The battery with the home backup system is a small dark start battery, basically to power the transfer switch from grid to truck during a loss of power.

I mean that from the point of view of the utility, the truck connected via the HIS is a battery about 5X the size of the largest single-family residential installation they ever see. Ford benefits from working with a partner with experience with the code, regulatory, and bureaucratic issues this raises. And who else are they going to partner with on a national scale? Clearly not SolarCity.

Unfortunately, from my point of view, the exclusive deal with Sunrun isn't working out too hot either. You can't ask a customer to sign documents that you won't provide in their entirety. That kind of issue is Sunrun's problem, not Ford's, but when Ford offers no local alternatives, Sunrun's problem damages Ford's image. I suspect the Sunrun "exclusive" lasts a year or less and Sunrun's inability to service certain parts of the country (heck, even certain parts of densely populated states, like NY) is what tips it over the edge.
