I went with Flood Ford 8yr/125K. Used my FordPass rewards points to discount it further. I keep vehicles for a long time and each has paid for itself, for me. Also, I am more likely to take it to the dealership for minor issues that I may have otherwise ignored or just lived with because it wasn't a big enough issue for me to foot the bill.

My dealer offered me an extended warranty to match the 8 year battery warranty, full bumper-to-bumper from Ford, for $2950. Trying to decide if its worth it...seems like a reasonable price...thoughts? I left the dealership without taking him up on the offer, but I think I can still "call it in" and get the same deal since its only been a week-ish since I took delivery.
I believe my dealer wanted $3200 to extend the bumper to bumper warranty to 7 yr/100,000 miles. So their offer to you sounds pretty good. I didn't get mine but was told I could extend it anytime before it expires.

In all my years of buying at least 16 new cars between myself and my wife an extended service plan would have helped me ZERO times.
I've had two extended services plans. Both times, they paid for themselves at least 2x over. One instance the warranty paid out almost $30K to replace a blown engine. The warranty cost $3200... It just comes down to personality and your financial situation. I could have afforded to replace the engine for $30K, but I'd rather not spend my money there. A warranty is a fixed cost, something that won't increase or decrease over time. I have no fear of check engine lights or taking my vehicle anywhere for service. It's not my problem for 8 years/100K. That kind of peace of mind is worth it to me.

I bought that same plan with no deductible from Granger for $1800 (with lighting and key).

I got a similar deal through flood ford. The best deal my local dealer who I purchased the lightning through would give me was $2695.

Just to be clear, when I go to pick up my Lightning and close the deal, I can pay for my truck and contact Granger or Flood Ford and get the extended thru them later that day or week, or do I need it before I close the deal with my dealer?

Thanks.

That's correct. You can buy it from flood or Granger after the truck purchase at your dealer. You can buy it up until the factory warranty expires.

One main reason for me is that I usually don’t keep my vehicles that long. 3 to 4 years.

You can actually buy it up to 41 months / 41,000 miles. Mild price increase at 12 / 12,000, like $100.

This warranty is transferable.

Also, for anyone sitting in their F&I office, make sure you pull up Flood/Granger's website and quote a price to your selling agent. I told the owner what I was seeing online, he told me to bring it in and they'd do what they can, the F&I guy told me he could do 1380 when I pulled up Granger's site and showed him the same plan for 1320 and we agreed to shake on $1350. The conversation started around $3K for that plan...

Why would I buy an extended warranty on vehicle I most likely won’t keep past the term of the manufacturer’s warranty? So that I transfer it to the dealer I’m trading it in to?
like I previously said I’ve owned 16 new cars and not once would an extended warranty given me any benefit other than reducing my bank account.
I won’t have this lightning in 3-4 years.

I thought about doing this, but decided against it. I want to reward the dealer that just comes with fair transparent no hassle pricing (Granger), not the one that has to be arm-twisted into it. I will be going with Granger when I am ready to purchase my warranty.

If you're cycling through vehicles every 3-4 years I figured you'd be more adept at selling your used vehicles privately instead of getting hosed at the dealer. Furthermore, not only is it transferrable, it's also cancellable.

So for anyone mulling this over, if you are "most likely" (not even a certainty, but you're still going to argue me point for point on this...ok, not sure this is a productive conversation anymore) to sell within the warranted period you can request and obtain a refund for the months you didn't use. Some would suggest that's better than being four to five years into ownership and realizing you are going to keep it but it's too late to add the extended warranty.

It also bears mentioning that this is a manufacturers extended warranty backed by Ford. I personally wouldn't compare it to other so-called "extended warranties" that are traditionally offered aftermarket when assessing the ESP's relative value.

I can certainly understand your position. I didn't feel like I had to twist any arms to get them to price match an online price. They have their price and told me and I told them what I saw and showed them a printout. They gave me a lot less hassle than Best Buy would give me price matching a TV, for example.

For those of us that are in a backwater state that doesn't allow Granger or Flood (Thanks Florida!), how does it work if I have an out of state address and then try get service in state?

No Ford dealer looks into HOW you acquired the warranty - they just submit claims. Therefore, if you are successful in buying the warranty from any Ford dealership, you're all set.

I've read of Canadians with a valid US address buying the warranty, then submitting claims from Canada, no reason you can't do it.
