When 1PD is enabled, audio glitches sporadically.

It's driving me nuts, I had originally thought it was my phone, but when I upgraded the issue persisted.

When using 1pd the audio (music mostly, but podcasts also) will "blink" it doesn't do it all the time, but it's driving me nuts. Dealer says there is no TSB for it. google says other owners have reported it happening.

What music source? By that I mean from phone, or the built in AM / FM / XM. I gather phone since you mentioned both phones and wired vs Bluetooth.

Dropouts usually happen when changing from carplay/AA to sync but never heard anything about 1pd.

Happens occasionally to me. I’ve tried restarting phone, cycling Bluetooth, airplane mode, moving phones physical location.

The only reliable method to solve is restarting infotainment: holding next track and outer most volume button on the steering wheel until it restarts. Works the first time every time except once where a repeated restart solved it.

I have the same truck with iPhone 14 Pro Max. The only time the audio cuts out are for iphone notifications (not tied to 1PD). It definitely seems strange that 1PD would have an impact. Any chance you have an app that may be interrupting the CarPlay link?

BlueTooth dropouts have been reported a lot in Lightnings, other vehicles too.
There was an update that fixed the problem for some people (don;t have the link but somewhere on the Forum here).

I had them with a variety of BT devices when streaming music.
In my case it was not related to 1PD which I do not use.
Using a wired connection if available solves the issue.

I changed to using an FM transmitter on my audio devices (iPod, Zune, XM Roady) and tuning the FM radio to an unused channel.

No notifications to interrupt. It's on carplay, wired or wireless. It does not occur when 1pd is disabled. it's like it's a voltage change the amp doesn't like. I'll try it on android auto to test if it is just a weird carplay issue. I hardly ever listen to FM, but I'll see if I can replicate it. It's been happening for the year I have had my truck. It even comes back after a sync reset.

I get dropouts all the time when changing modes, frequently noticeable given the bug that won't leave it in sport mode even when you press OK to stay in sport mode... but I haven't noticed any glitches once the switch over it finished. Is this happening when you turn on-off 1PD, or just using it. Does it just happen randomly, or do you hear it every time you press the pedal, or let up? You mentioned having he problem both wired and wireless, believe on Android even wired AA uses wifi, and I get drops from time to time when the wifi gets interrupted.

Yep mine does the same, I usually use Android Auto, and every time I change drive modes the audio stutters for a second or too.

The "1PD" part is probably a red herring. The CPU that Ford uses in the infotainment system is woefully underpowered. The NXP i.MX 8 is about equivalent to a low-end Celeron from 2015. It's better at handling some multimedia things, like processing video and outputting graphics, but it's very weak at general processing and will easily bog down when switching between tasks.

I really wish more car companies would take a page out of Tesla's book and use a more powerful CPU to avoid those glitches. It's annoying having to wait half a minute after startup for that CPU to catch up so I can adjust the truck's climate control system successfully.

For the first three years of ownership of my 2022 Lariat i was frustrated with Apple CarPlay. I tried both wired and wireless. Here's what I discovered and was the fix for me.

Apparently the Ford infotainment system doesn't like wired and wireless CarPlay both available at the same time. I removed the Ford connection from the iPhone CarPlay app and also from the truck. Then, instead of plugging in my iPhone to the cubby under the main screen, I plug it into the center armrest console where it doesn't "connect" to the infotainment system, it just charges. I then paired the iPhone wirelessly to the truck.

Since removing the hard wired option for CarPlay it has worked great. Very few issues now.
