Not going go get into a political discussion which doesn't belong here, but if you think it is the media distorting what Elmo says, that's pretty humorous.

Elon has posted inflammatory (and made statements that were false on several occasions) posts on his own media site. Perhaps he is his own worst enemy in this regard.

Well my point is that I don’t know what the media is saying about him, and others shouldn’t care either. So I’m not talking about politics at all.

For example, I’ve been going to the same park with my dog for over 10 years now. Things are still pretty good just as they were 10 years ago. People still saying good morning, dogs still sniffing each other, old guys still hanging out on the benches waving and letting their dogs play with each other. So from my perspective things are pretty much the same, just more EV’s and chargers around lol. I’ll get off my soapbox now, but if people just leave their phone at home and go outside more, they would realize just how great things really are.

I think you're confusing the media saying things, with people (like Elmo) saying and doing things. You seem to be espousing that people should not watch any media to see what is going on in the world.

That's sticking your head in the sand.

By your logic, we should ignore that a plane crashed and killed over hundreds in India yesterday, because we didn't see it? We should ignore than Israel bombed Iran, and that a middle east war is looming?

Thanks, but no thanks. And the media didn't make Elmo do a salute.

Well obviously the frequency of plane crashes or a possible war does impact my life directly and indirectly. But a CEO supporting a politician doesn’t really impact anything of value. I don’t like Tim Cook’s politics, but I certainly like the Apple ecosystem and keep buying their products.

Gets back to what I was saying, why? Did he do something that impacted your life, or did the TV/social media say he did? Personally I’ve never been a fan of him, but I’ve also never had a strong opinion of him. I still feel this way, but I’m sure if I put the TV on I’d feel different.
Guess what, I don't know because there's no reports on the data taken from the IRS etc.

Why? If a company's CEO chooses to take a specific position on issues in our society, how do you make your voice heard? By buying the company's products?

To be fair, I was an Elmo hater long before salutes and orange embrace. Always thought most of the cars looked like crap, and the fact that he proclaims things are going to be live by dates he always misses just makes it more ridiculous. Politics didn't impact my view of him, until he embraced President Cheeto, then it just made me dislike him more. But none of that was shaped by the media, he's outspoken and any idiot can listen what to he says. He also treats people like shit, like Cheeto.

But there are companies where I go out of my way to not buy their products, including a past employer that owns a bunch of consumer brands. No one dare bring those brands in my house, they go right back out. My wife once bought some by mistake, and I made her take them back on the next trip. You've got to take a stand on some things.

Err, what?

So the Department of Education, Consumer Protection Agency, FAA, or any of the dozen other agencies that were gutted directly by his hand DON'T affect people's lives. That isn't "social media", that's information.

When the primary shareholder and CEO of a major corporation decidedly and in very real ways affects people, then consumers have every right to not spend their money in a way that advances that company.

Social media can be manipulative, but not being informed is the exact same failure. Because one thing is bad it does not mean the exact opposite is good.

If money is now "free speech" (Citizens United) then vote with your pocketbook

ONE NOTE: Most of us don't have enough "free speech" to be "heard" by most politicians (so we just "whisper" in a big open field with few dollars here and there)
